Wheeler sounds like an interesting risk/reward proposition and, like other posters have pointed out, shouldn't cost us a whole lot in terms of prospects. I'd actually like him as a "lower profile" add to the pitching staff that compliments a bigger name acquisition.
It seems like the market for bigger names is shrinking though. No way Bauer or Scherzer get traded now. The Giants are like 3-4 wins away from MadBum being taken off the market. And I think the Tigers are going to demand a ton for Boyd because he has so much controllability and they don't want to get fleeced again like they did in the JV deal.
I'd take Ray or Stroman at the right price, but neither seem like guys we should "break the bank" for. My attention is pretty squarely on the Mets. The Mets should almost certainly be sellers but we'll see what their ownership decides.
If the Mets decide to go full-on rebuild, maybe we go Tucker, James, JBB, Kemp and <insert 1-2 more prospects> for a package of Thor, Wheeler and Lugo. One stop shopping.
