Officially struggling and I'm officially concerned. When is Springer back?

Running into the Yankees at the wrong time. They are super solid and we couldn't be further away from solid.

it's just about a lost week --- we'll see what happens tomorrow.

but when you think about it...the warning signs have been there since the Orioles series. The 'stros did not play particularly well vs. a terrible, terrible Baltimore team.

the bills have come due in NYC

Wounded and not playing well. Still a 7+ game lead in the division and the 3rd best record in pro ball.
Slumps are going to happen. Just not much fun to watch.

the 2017 team's longest losing streak was 5 games.

so this is uncharted territory

We've all said it before, but he is the heart of the team. Luhnow needs to get him resigned.

Haven't won since we went for my b-day. Time to go again, break the streak.

It's really nothing to freak out about. We got pretty lucky for a month with some of our best players out. That luck came back to bite us this week.

Crawford boxes had an article about it last week. We were grabbing one run games at a high rate. We lost 3 of those this week.

This team is still lethal when healthy and the light at the end of the tunnel keeps growing brighter. All of that didn't magically change in a week.

They'll play through this just fine. It's what championship clubs do.

Its rough to watch though, no doubt. When we get accustomed to regularly getting that endorphins boost from 4+ wins a week the droughts feel extra long. I definitely empathize with the angst. But the long term picture for this team is still very bright.

Battle through to the break and then come on strong down the stretch.

Mine was the first loss. And fathers day for me.

This stretch helps to solidify something I'm sure we all know. Springer is the catalyst of this offense and I hope they pay him when it comes time.

at least the rest of the division is helping out the cause. Rangers lose again to the Chisox.

and the Angels are losing this week too despite Upton's return.

and the A's #1 starter (Montas) just got suspended for 80 games

For those who were asking yesterday, here's the segment where Blum talks about his time playing for (and wanting to fight) Lou Pinella...jump to 24:40.

I know this is not going to be a popular take, but as good as George is (I agree that he's the offensive MVP) what makes the offense so good is that when healthy, there are no holes and when Bregman and Brantley go cold, George and Altuve pick up the slack, and so on. If George had stayed healthy but Bregman was out, we'd have had the same problem.

I agree with you sentimentally, because George has earned it and I love watching him play. On the other hand, since these big-time 30 y/o FAs end up getting paid for services already performed, it is not likely that as he gets into his 30s he will be "worth" whatever we have to pay to keep him. I don't want to end up like the Angels with over the hill Pujols & Upton eating up 1/3 of the payroll.

There is something to be said for loyalty and I definitely hope that we make all of our guys very fair offers (even Glass Joe Correa), but if we have to pay Giancarlo $ to keep them, I'd rather say thanks for the memories, build statues outside MMP and spend the money on someone whose best baseball is ahead of them.

excellent post.

and of course unfortunately Springer has a games-played problem.

2017 ---> 140
2018 ---> 140
2019 ---> 130 max

that's not a good trend for a player approaching his 30's.

especially in light of Altuve's recent injury woes (and his already being locked in at a very high salary for the next 5 years)

He had well over 600 plate appearances the last 3 years. It might have hits the 700s with the postseason (didn't check). Just because he's not leading the league like he did 3 years ago, doesn't mean there is a problem. How many CF have >400 games played over the last 3 years?
