I'm starting to think we exit this off season with a big nothing burger

7 teams most likely to make the next big move
2. Astros
The Astros also have a lengthy shopping list, and while there's a much lower sense of urgency, there are very real needs: a veteran starting pitcher to line up behind Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole and Collin McHugh; a designated hitter; and perhaps an outfielder and/or a catcher. With Verlander and Cole under contract for only one more season, the Astros understand their window could close a bit after 2019.
Names to consider: DH Nelson Cruz, RHP Sonny Gray

Yes they got JV after the deadline......I still have faith.
If they go with our AAA guys I will be worried but have faith too that they know what the are doing.
Verlander will be 37. I can't see us paying him what he makes now at that point. If he stays healthy I wouldn't mind giving him 2 years @ 20 million per.W said:
perhaps another way to look at it regarding JV and Cole...
what is the maximum number of players the Astros can have on their payroll in one season...who are making more than $20 MM per year?
I suspect the answer is 2 or 3.
and of course Altuve is going to be 1 of those thru 2024
