Maybe, but Astros looked like that team last series. high variance sport

Cleveland wasn't that good. They padded wins against a division that made bdf football look formidable.

Cleveland had absolutely elite starting pitching. Historically good. Very similar to us. They have nice pop in the front of their line up but we're not deep and had no bullpen.

Wasn't good isn't right. Not a complete team is probably a better description.

I hadn't paid that much attention but you're correct. The only team over .500 they had a winning record against in the regular season was Boston (4-3).

how many lefty bullpen arms are we signing? need to replace Sipp and I'd like 1 more... also I wish we would replace Dallas with another lefty.

Cheers guys, enjoyed y'all's company this year. Look forward to the off season thread where we solve all of our problems (real or perceived). I have already alerted Luhnow that the thread will be active by this weekend so he can start dropping in early next week for some nuggets!

I don't think we'll be willing to pay what Dallas will want. I also think Marwin will be overvalued by another team and walk for more than we're willing to pay as well. It sucks to think about losing two guys integral to building this team, but I trust our front office with whatever they end up doing.

There are not very many exciting FAs on that list. Machete may not be a bad choice to re-sign. Cody Allen could be intriguing. I'd like to take a shot at Corbin.

Astros' record at home is a disgrace these past two years. It should definitely be a talking point heading to the off season. Why exactly is this team so bad when it comes to playing in front of their home crowd?
I thought you called it a season, you will need to wait for the off season thread if you have any additional questions.
I know there is a big level of pride and "I am a better fan than you are dick measuring contest" on this thread. I was very active last year, from beginning to end and have been following the Astros for many years.

I might be wrong, and you will call me out if we win this game. I don't care. This team has not performed well this series, in addition to the bad calls. If we win, I'll eat my crow, but not looking like it.
Cheo, I will apologize because we are all Astros fans and "same team". It is frustrating to see so many people just give up and call it a season. I don't think I am a bigger or more knowledgeable fan than the next guy, I just know I never leave a game when there are still outs like I watched so many donin person on Tuesday and on TV last night.

Just watching people who claim to be great fans give up is disappointing. Forgive me.
No need to apologize sir. I understand your message. Its so hard to repeat championships. I am a strong believer that this team, on paper, was better than last year's. They were just not healthy and clicking on all cylinders all at once during this post season. What a change though huh? Astros have raised expectations in the last 3 years, and it is awesome.

Dallas is gone, Marwin and Gattis are too. We need to only pick one (Machete or McCann)... Sipp is gone. Need to get Kemp ready to play the infield, so we can have him be flexible.

I would like to have a more reliable 1B bat, which may allow Pina to be DH more often.

With McCullers, we can let Sallas go and with James and the other Hispanic lefty we can move Lance to the Bullpen.

Our AAAA players need to **** or get off the pot, White included.

Last but not least, time to fast track Ted and Forest...

We need a true dh and a starter since I think Dallas walks and so does Marwin. Which means we really need a dh and a starting lf. Let's assume ted or kemp play lf then we need a guy that can rake.

Looking at the FA our there we are screwed there. We won't overpay for an aging bat. I say got after Corbin Allen or miller as others have mentioned and try and sign a couple of FAs who can play that utility role

Jake Arrieta got 3 year, 75 million.

Would y'all do that for Dallas?

He's be off the books before you commit to Correa or Bregman.

No, but I think Jake is a fair comp. I'd say Yu is a fair comp too and he got 6 years at 126 M.

I wouldnt touch Dallas anywhere near 25 million per year with a 10 foot pole if I was the Astros.

Some will disagree but I think he's going to be on a gradual steady decline as a #4 type starter for the next few years. Somebody will try to bring him in as their #2 guy and I think they will be very underwhelmed

LMJ will play a lot into keeping Dallas or not. Hopefully no surgery there. If so, Dallas becomes more important since LMJ and Morton would be out of the rotation.

Well **** me sideways. That's ****ty news. Regardless, I really liked what James and Valdez showed us this season. Those guys and Whitley and Martes are going to hopefully result in the filling of the Keuchel and McCullers voids. I think Charlie will be coming back for a short term deal.

I think the ****ty bullpen play this last series was an anomaly and am gonna chock it up to variance. I think Luhnow is gonna be looking for a bullpen lefty or 2, but I don't think he'll be sweating pitching nearly as much as he'll be sweating bats.

Very few of our farm guys have proven to be quality bats in the bigs and I think there's an equity value question that has our FO in somewhat of a quandry when you consider diminishing returns. I'm curious if there's a bat out there similar to Cole in the pitching realm that has a couple years left of control that would warrant selling some prospects. I've been preaching to friends all year that Harper is the guy to break the bank for and worthy of a bidding war, but I highly doubt Luhnow's algos will end up being long on him once the Yankees have blown their load and offered him half a billion dollars or something assinine.

We'll see. The future is still bright, and we all know how much of a crapshoot this **** is in the playoffs. I'm excited to see how this front office handles all of these variables to ensure prolonged success, and I'll be rooting for the Brew Crew for the time being. I'll also be doing some added praying that TED pans out. His lefty swing and scrawny build reminds me of Shawn Green, and Green was one of my favorites growing up.

I think Morton is an entirely different situation than Keuchel and Marwin. The dude has hinted multiple times that hes been ready to retire for awhile and that the team camaraderie in Houston is one of few factors continuing his drive. There's value there in a short term contract and in a "hometown" deal that both Keuchel and Marwin aren't going to offer.
