Exactly.

Going back to the SF series many of us said that 7 wins from the 13 game stretch with SF, CLE, NYY, and BOS would make us happy.

You win 2 and split the BOS series this weekend and there's your 7 wins to come away satisfied. Get it together and somehow win the series and you get to 8 and the stretch was a success.

I can't wait for the upcoming schedule from June 7 - July 15... key time for us to rack up some wins...

6 vs Texas
7 vs Oakland
6 vs KC
7 vs Tampa Bay
3 vs Toronto
4 vs Chicago (White Sox)
3 vs Detroit

36 games with every team current at or below .500...

How about Max Stassi? He continues to impress me, both at the plate and behind.
I'm excited about the future Max Stassi/Garrett Stubbs platoon at catcher.

no doubt that is the time to make hay and have at least a 5-game lead in the standings at the break

We're currently 35-22. After 57 games last season:

Astros 41-16 => 101-61
Indians 29-28 => 102-60
Dodgers 35-22 => 104-58

Keep in mind that game 57 last year was our tenth win in a row during the eleven-game winning streak. We should have some pretty good streaks in the month of June.

Wouldn't shock me at all if we rip off a 23 of 26 stretch at some point this season.

The logic being used in the last few posts is a breath of fresh air. I trust mgmt to make the right moves, but they will be patient for now to give these guys every chance to succeed. If we get in real danger of not winning the division, then they will act sooner. Probably going to see how the next month goes first.

Former Astro Joe Musgrove didn't like the Rizzo slide we'd talked about on the thread.

Good for Joe. The slide earlier this week wasn't needed.

I like Joe sending a message. Musgrove was the starter and this happened in the 3rd inning.

I love how it's the same slide but Cubs take exception to it. Point made nicely.

Hopefully Maddon will come out and say it is a legal slide and it would be sending the wrong message if it were called illegal.

If we split with Boston, we'll have gone 11-8 through the murderers row portion of our schedule (@LAA, CLE, SF, @CLE, @NYY, BOS).

Assuming we trend back to the mean in close games, I'd almost say a 23-3 type of stretch is more likely than not.

Tuesday's game was uneventful, even though there were some hit batters. Nick Kingham hit Willson Contreras, Jon Lester hit Kingham, and Michael Feliz hit Contreras. There didn't seem to be any malice behind any of those hit batters.

Thing is, it isn't even close to the same slide. Rizzo changed his path unnecessarily (almost three feet to the left of home plate) to make contact with the catcher. Musgrove slid straight over the bag and stood up into Baez while putting his foot on the bag.
And that announcer (assuming its the Cubs' but its not Jim DeShaies) is very worked up about it

Looking at the Pomeranz it looks like he's had a rough go at it with an ERA over 6 and over 5 BB/9.

Hope the offense is patient and works him a bit.

Really after Sale I'm not too sold on this BOS rotation.

The big X factor in this series is not doubt Alex Cora. He knows these guys very well and that will certainly give them a bit of an upper hand on how to navigate the lineup.

And in browsing Fangraphs I stumbled on this interesting piece on our catching situation and how the flexibility of McCann, Stassi, and Gattis creates a nice advantage for us.

Seems lately when we have been patient at the plate, we have been much more successful. Let's hope the boys wait for their pitch tonight and drive the ball.

I'd be interested in this trade for us.

https://frsbaseball.com/mlb/heyman-a-dozen-trades-that-have-not-happened-but-should/
Quote:

These trade ideas may have no greater chance of happening than your average radio caller suggestion, but it's still fun to guess:

1. Machado to the Phillies for shortstop prospect Arquimedes Gamboa and pitching prospects Enyel De Los Santos and Jose Taveras.
The Phillies love Machado, may have the greatest need for him now (the Cubs may have to emphasize starting pitching now) and a plethora of prospects. De Los Santos came from San Diego for Freddy Galvis. Another thought might be for the Phillies to offer second baseman Cesar Hernandez, a good player who is blocking the beloved Scott Kingery at second and was available last winter, though the guess here is that the Phillies are disinclined to trade the thriving Hernandez at this point.

2. Chris Archer to the Brewers for 2B prospect Keston Hiura and OF prospect Brett Phillips.

Archer has always made sense for the Brewers, and a fresh start may actually help him (many don't believe he's pitching to his potential). Hiura is a great hitter but some wonder if he's a first baseman or DH, and Phillips is caught in a numbers game in Brew City. While Archer's numbers aren't great, his value is in his long and reasonable contract.

3. Kelvin Herrera and Jon Jay to the Astros for pitching prospect David Paulino and J.D. Davis.

Herrera has been touted here for weeks as the right one for the Astros. Paulino has been dangled by the Astros forever. The Royals will need corner guys with Mike Moustakas and Lucas Duda free agents.

4. Cole Hamels plus cash to the Yankees for Chance Adams and Thairo Estrada.

The starting pitching market is thin, but Hamels may be the best of those available. We know he's a big-game pitcher from the World series a decade ago. The Yankees have prospects galore.

5. Josh Donaldson and cash to the Cardinals for pitching prospect Dakota Hudson and OF prospect Eduardo Sosa.

The Jays were likely focused on Luke Weaver, Ryan Flaherty and Jordan Hicks this winter, but will have to set their sights slightly lower now that Donaldson isn't hitting like usual (and has missed time with shoulder and calf issues).

6. Mike Moustakas to the Braves for A.J. Minter and Kyle Muller.

The Braves are likely to seek a third base upgrade, but probably not of a mind to deal top guys or add huge money, so Machado and Donaldson may be less likely. Moustakas is having a nice year at a reasonable rate, and he'd fit fine.

7. Jose Abreu and Nate Jones to the Rockies for Ryan McMahon and Riley Pint.

The Rockies may need a little more firepower to become a true threat, and Ian Desmond can play anywhere. McMahon is better than he showed early, and Pint's slipped a bit on their prospect list.

8. J.T. Realmuto to the Brewers for pitching prospect Luis Ortiz, OF prospect Corey Ray and C prospect Mario Feliciano.

Of all these deals, this may be least likely, as there's no evidence the Marlins are considering trading Realmuto at this point. Anyway, Ortiz is talented and could headline a deal, Ray hasn't developed quite as hoped and the Marlins are going to need a catcher.

9. Raisel Iglesias to the Indians for pitching prospects Shane Bieber and Brady Aiken.

The Reds should deal their star closer if they can get what they want for him, which should be pitching and plenty of it.

10. Zach Britton to the Angels for OF prospect Brandon Marsh.

The Angels need to solidify their closing situation. Marsh could eventually replace Adam Jones.

11. Brad Hand to the Indians for 3B prospect Nolan Jones and OF prospect Johnathan Rodriguez.

The Indians need help in the pen in the worst way.

12. Tyson Ross to the Dodgers for pitching prospect Caleb Ferguson.

These two teams have ties, and Padres exec Logan White knows the Dodgers system.

Maybe. Interesting for sure. Only downside is that both of those guys are rentals.

My thing is that I really like JD Davis but he is blocked big time. Unless with Gattis walking next year you think can JD can take over at 1B and let Yuli DH full time.

Otherwise I think JD is expendable, but not sure if that's worth it for rentals.

JD can go to the bullpen (he was CSF's closer in college and pitched in 2 games last year) and be a PH/defensive sub on the side. He can touch lower 90s with his fastball.

Hinch is trying my patience. A line-up tonight featuring Federowicz and Marisnick; while Stassi, Gattis, and Yuli sit.

Jake Marisnick is the worst offensive player in MLB, and should never bat in a game yet he keeps getting trotted out there. At first I thought AJ really had a soft spot for Jake, but now I think he deep down hates him. Jake keeps getting sent out there to embarrass himself, when he should only be a ninth inning defensive replacement or more properly a Fresno Grizzly.
