All of Houston's runs today are on home runs. Is it 2015 again?

Frustrating loss, but aside from Keuchel's first inning and Smith forgetting how to throw a baseball, there's nothing to complain about.

Too bad Hinch gave up early and put in scrubs to pitch

However it's not like we have a deep BP

I'm referencing Smith and Sipp. Sipp pitched fine but Smith was Smith.

I don't necessarily think it was the wrong call. They just yanked us around by saying double, home run, double

Is it a double if it hits the top of the wall and goes over? What if it hits a player's glove and goes over? Both of those are home runs. This isn't any different.

Late to the party but to me hitting an object (wall, players head, glove, etc...) and then going over the wall it should be a HR. But I guess need to read the rules.

I was at the game. Did they discuss the ruling behind tuve's ground rule double?

Keuchel coming out not sharp and spotting them 3 runs with Cluber on the mound was killer. From that point on we all knew a W wasn't very likely.

There's no park rule for this situation thus the front of the fence is considered in play.

We're running out of time for DK to be on the DL in May.

The fact it hit the front facing part of the wall (the chain link fence) is what caused it to be a double. At that point it's no longer in flight and is not a HR. If it bounces off the pad and goes over without hitting the front facing fence it's a HR.

I think it makes sense.

So was that RBI single that dribbled a dozen feet. So were Altuve's and Reddick's monster fly balls to center field. Lots of tough breaks today.

Jose hit the first ball in major league history to go over the fence while never hitting a player or the ground, and not be ruled a HR

So I didn't hear the ruling. What was the explanation? I'm assuming there's a rule in place even though the was the first time it occurred I'm MLB history?
Im looking for Ray Finkle.... and a clean pair of shorts. Im just a very big Finkle fan. This is my Graceland, sir.

The ground rules for MMP don't address this type of play so the determination was made that the metal fence the ball 1st hit was considered in play and therefore it was just like it hitting off the ground. That is what made it a double instead of a HR

I didn't get to watch today - what fence did Jose's ball hit? I cannot visualize what you guys are talking about.

+1, only thing I swe mentioned was that it hit the bullpen padding and went over, but aren't the pens either out of the park or not reachable?

The one major issue looks like the back end of the bullpen. Manager A.J. Hinch smartly covered that very same potential problem by calling upon starters Charlie Morton and Lance McCullers to close out huge victories in last year's postseason derby, and there are some who believe McCullers has the right "motor" to become a long-term closer.
But things would be easier if the favorite to repeat simply acquired a closer via trade. They came close to adding Zach Britton last year, but as noted in this space last week, Kelvin Herrera is the most obvious target this time around since he's currently dealing. Britton is due back in a couple weeks and could come into play as well, of course.
For now, we'll assume Alex Colome, who's struggling uncharacteristically, if mostly off the radar. If we're going to get picky they could look at a corner outfielder as well, but that answer probably comes from within.

Two 60-day DL stints for Britton since this time last year. I would feel uneasy if we went after him.
