No, definitely not the start of 2019, but maybe somewhere along the way in 2019 a couple of them may be ready for a shot. Notice the "could be" and "at some point" parts at then end of that writeup. The good news is that they are showing some good flashes, but need more consistency (and/or experience). Then hopefully among the young arms in that article and the additional young arms you mentioned that we can come up with 2 to 3 viable young starters by 2020. Then supplement that with a quality free agent signing or two in 2020 and the rotation will be viewed (potentially) totally differently than it is today,.

I'm not expecting the 2019 rotation to be any better than the 2018 rotation. Just the way it is.

I get the language. Even if they make only an appearance, I don't think they will be anywhere near ready. Let's see them handle AA hitters successfully, first.

Surely, we'll have better SP next year....

Return:
Minor: 23 GS, 4.40 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 129.0 IP, 63 ER
Perez: 12 GS, 6.93 ERA, 1.95 WHIP, 63.2 IP, 49 ER
Jurado: 6 GS, 6.40 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, 32.1 IP, 23 ER

2018 Totals:
129 GS, 5.43 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 706.0 IP, 426 ER

Replacement:
88 GS, 481 IP, 291 ER => 5.44 ERA

I would hope both Perez and Jurado could improve. So, if we can't find 2 guys who can't get us 5.44, we're in big trouble.

Colon is at 5.59 and Gallardo is at 5.10.

Hamels, Fister and ABD (we have control for both Fister and ABD, if we want) are the only guys that did better than Minor.

The Gallo injury sucks. He's been swinging a pretty hot bat since the asb.

Seriously if any of my future pieces had so much as a hangnail I'd put them on the 10 day DL at this point. Why not?

Have to give Perez credit, he followed this with four scoreless innings. Maybe he just needs an "opener" to start the game for him, then he can come in . Supposedly Rangers may give this a try in September, like Tampa Bay has done.

Have we talked about these uniforms? I think they look great, I like these colors more than our basic blue and red.

I agree. The solid red and especially the solid blue are absolutely awful. So boring.

The whites could be classics if they'd change the font up. Also put "Rangers" on them.

I hope the Rangers change their look when they change homes.

Any word on that, Accident Prone?

I'm all for using the classic powder blue every once in a while but these are tacky little league uniforms and they should be burned in San Fran hobo campfires and never worn again.

A product of NL line ups and cooler weather, or another example of the failure of Brocail

Seems like Cole has been around long enough that he doesn't need much from a pitching coach. But it wouldn't surprise me if Brocail found a way to **** it up.

Sure would have been nice to snag Buehler for Darvish. I know he was the Rangers ask.

Any word on Sept callups?

I'm thinking YoMen and Sadzeck.

YoMen started tonight for Round Rock. 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO.
Sadzeck went 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0ER, 0 BB, 1 SO.

Calhoun, Heinman. Rua will be back from his rehab stint in the minors. But those are all outfielders. I forget if Alberto (IF) and Trevino (CA) are still with Rangers or Round Rock, but they'll be around in September I would think.

Gallo broke back on a liner straight over his head last night and made it look easy. He has that big guy athletic ability that you just don't see that often - players like Josh Hamilton and Dave Winfield.

Last night looked a lot like next year's starting lineup, or at least the one I'd try to evaluate.

Profar-Andrus-Odor-Guzman

Chirinos (IKF backup)

Choo-Gallo-Mazara

Beltre DH

Gallo is never going to be Andruw Jones, Kenny Lofton, Mike Trout, or Griffey, Jr. But I still think he can play the position.

And did anybody see the Profar/Odor 5-4-3 last night?

The LF situation with Choo is interesting. If we somehow eat his contract in an off-season deal, there's DD, Calhoun, Tocci, etc., waiting.

Beltre can still play 3rd at times. IKF can backup on the IF.

Seeing through Zonk-colored glasses, but I think this is a lineup that can be competitive both offensively and defensively.

Fix the pitching rotation and you're looking at a pretty decent team

I think so. There are some nights where 2 runs is a very good offensive showing. You have to be able to win some of those games. Right now this team has no ability to win a 2-1 game. The offense actually did a really good job last night, but was never really in the game.
DallasAg 94

Choo is still a liability in the OF.

Mazara is still pretty slow in RF.

That OF is serviceable, though.

With Beltre, the question may be if they can convince him the role of DH is worthwhile to achieve certain goals. I suspect his issue is can he remain healthy enough for the amount of work required to play 3B and not wanting a diminished DH role. Almost ALL of his offensive productivity has been while playing 3B, and he is #1 in almost every cumulative statistic for "games played while at 3B."

Overall, they may find a way to convince him of certain achievements:

Some Beltre perspective.

He has indicated that he doesn't really scoreboard watch, but I'm going to anyway.

He is 19th in Total Hits, with 3140.
08: Yastrzemski: 3419 (278)
09. Molitor: 3319 (178)
10. Collins 3314
11. Mays: 3283 (142)
12. Murray: 3255 (114)
13. Lajoie: 3252 (111)
14. Ripkin: 3185 (44 hits away)
15. Brett: 3154
16. Waner: 3152
17. Yount: 3142
18. Gwynn: 3141
T18. Beltre: 3141

178 Hits through 2018-2019 may be a bit much to ask, but doable

He is 14th in Games with 2906
4. Henderson 3081
5. Cobb: 3035
T6. Murray: 3026
T6. Musial: 3026
8. Ripken: 3001 (94)
9. Mays: 2992 (85)
10. Bonds: 2986 (79)
11. Winfield: 2973 (66)
12. Vizquel: 2968 (61)
13. Staub: 2951 (44)
14. Beltre: 2907

He could add 29 this season. 3000 GP would be a nice round number. 29+162 puts him at 3098, which would allow him 17 G off between now and then, to become #4.

He is 12th in 2B with 627. Yaz is 8th with 646 (19)

Beltre says he hadn't really thought about his legacy, but now may be a good time to consider.
