Rangers have the opportunity to control Hutchison via arbitration for three years.

Looks like
Hutchison
Perez
Colon
Gallardo
Jurado
Minor
Now all of a sudden Colon looks like the worst of all of them.

Was kinda hoping we'd go after Greg Holland too. Prorated portion of league minimum. Another arm in case Perez went down again or we got rid of Big Sexy.
I think Colon is done for the season. I think he has a limited season based on age and just won't make a full season.

I think once he gets his next win and achieves the most Ws by a LATAM player, the Rangers will likely move him to the bullpen.

I've been pleased with Jurado. I've tracked him for years and think he should be a mid-rotation guy. I expect there to be pain along the way (first couple years) until he adjusts to next level.

I'm hoping Minor can continue to grow back into a SP.

Perez had a solid July. I hope he can continue to pitch to a sub-4.00 ERA.

I think both Gallardo and Colon would be happy to come back.

I'm also curious what Hearn brings to 2019.

Not sure what Hutchison will bring. Add YoMen to the stack and we have some options to fill a rotation in 2019. Although nothing spectacular, I do believe we have some long-term quality guys.

Re: Odor/Elvis -- I think as fans we try and put some explanation on why Player X who was performing at Level Z isn't anymore and that it has to do with them not trying as hard or caring as much.

Reality is hitting a baseball is a really hard thing to do over a small sample size -- even harder over a large sample size.

To go along with that, I think it's also real easy to fall into some habits that seem to be paying off. But then pitchers eventually adjust, the book on you changes, and then you're back to searching for new answers. It's a game where the line between very good and very bad is surprisingly thin.

Article on Hamilton. Not too much in there. "Something came up" is what Hamilton's excuse was for canceling. JD and Murph keep in touch with him. Spends a lot of his time on his ranch outside of Waco when he doesn't have his kids.

I know this seems dumb, but I'm enjoying today's game more than pretty much any other game I've watched this year.

I'm living in Manhattan for the summer so I'm planning on taking my one year old to his first ever Major League Baseball game next Sunday when the good guys come to Yankee Stadium. Looking like the probable starters are Sabathia and Colon, could this be the highest combined weight of two starting pitchers in MLB history? We might be witnessing history...

Ya....if they significantly play Odor over Profar, I'm officially done with this management team.
Need to root for Profar to keep outplaying odor so they can't pull a fast one.

I think they'd love nothing more than to put odor in everyday and make Profar ride the pine, but they don't want to look stupid and suffer the fan backlash by doing so.

Why would you root for one player to outplay another player on the team you root for? Especially when one has a contract that can significantly handicap the team if he doesn't perform. Best case scenario for the team is for both Odor and Profar to play great, trade Elvis and Beltre at the deadline, then plug in Pro at SS and IKF at 3B.
Nobody seems to agree with me, but from what I've seen the last 2 years, Odor is not going to get fixed at the major league level. He needs to go down to triple A and work on many aspects of his game.

Whatever happened to this **** stick?

I'll admit when I'm wrong....and I was wrong.

I'm VERY impressed at how Odor has turned it around this year. I will admit that I started to think he was going to become a lost cause. I don't think anyone could have rightfully "expected" that sort of turnaround, especially when you add in the defense he's been playing too.

I'm very pleased with it, but Odor was playing some bad baseball there for about a year plus. Grapesoda took the criticism of him to an extreme for sure.

Agreed. Odor has turned into one of the more pleasant surprises of a lost season. While he doesn't have enough plate appearances to qualify for the league leaders, he's clearly taken some big steps forward. If you look at all players (qualified/non-qualified) and take out those non-qualifiers that have played fewer than 40 games, he'd rank 6th in MLB among 2B for OPS. He's 15th among all 2B for BB, which is huge for him. He's only 4 walks shy of tying his career high.

He seems much more disciplined at the plate, and we're starting to see the player they gave a ton of money to.

RANGERS 2B ROUGNED ODOR NAMED AMERICAN LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Odor has won two of the league's three weekly awards since the All-Star break

Arlington, Texas Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor has been selected by Major League Baseball as the American League Player of the Week for the period ending August 5. The announcement was made on MLB Network this afternoon.

Odor also won the award for the period of July 20-22, becoming the first Texas player in 13 years to take the honors twice in one season. Rangers players to win multiple A.L. weekly awards (since 1974) in a single campaign all with 2 wins per season are Jeff Burroughs (1974), Buddy Bell (1980), Nolan Ryan (1990), Rafael Palmeiro (1993), Alex Rodriguez (2001 and 2002), Mark Teixeira (2005), and Odor (2018).

In 6 games last week, Odor batted .304/.448/.870/1.318 (7-23) with 4 home runs, 10 RBI, 6 walks, and 8 runs. He tied for the major league lead in home runs and tied for the A.L. lead in RBI and runs. He was also among the A.L.'s best in walks (T4th), total bases (T4th, 20), and OPS (5th).

Odor is the only Ranger to win the weekly honor in 2018 and he has now taken the award four times in his career, T2nd-most in club history (5-Rafael Palmeiro; 4-Alex Rodriguez, Juan Gonzalez, Adrian Beltre, Odor).

I do feel like it's worth adding that Odor's turnaround has been pretty surprising though, right? He had played some really bad baseball for a pretty long time before this stretch. I don't think people saying he should sit/be sent down were totally wrong, at least at the beginning of the year.

Either way, I'm happy to eat a little bit of crow about him!

No it wasn't. Not at all.

Quote:

He had played some really bad baseball for a pretty long time before this stretch.
He had injured his hamstring and spent time on the DL this season. He played 11 games then went on the DL. Then, with a Hammy... you expect there to be some time to get his strength back in his swing.

The person saying he should be sent down was an Astros sock, just trying to stir the pot. He shows up when Odor has a weak performance/game and disappears when he does well. It is personal with him.

He and other Astros fans don't like Odor.

His numbers:
2014 (20): 114 G, .259, 9 HR, 4 SB, .698 OPS, 71 SO
2015 (21): 120 G, .261, 16 HR, 6 SB, .781 OPS, 79 SO
2016 (22): 150 G, .271, 33 HR, 14 SB, .798 OPS, 135 SO
----Signs lucrative contract----
2017 (23): 162 G, .204, 30 HR, 15 SB, .649 OPS, 162 SO
2018 (24): 82 G, .272, 13 HR, 9 SB, .824 OPS, 81 SO

What that shows me is, he is a very good player with significant success at an early age. He signed a big contract and tried to perform too hard and struggled. He has worked to get where he needs to be and is back on track.

His .824 OPS is 3rd for 2B in the AL for players with more than 250 PAs., and would be 21st overall in the AL (against qualified players).

Odor has 101 Career HRs. That puts him at 54th ALL-TIME for 2B'ers. 8 more this season will put him T-44th.

Wrap your head around that. He is 24 and Astros fans think he needs to be in the minors.

His play indicated he would benefit from it. A few people just wanted him gone, most wanted him to go down to fix what was wrong. Acting like he didn't colosally suck is idiotic.

Tuff luck tonight for Perez. 3 infield hits, a check swing luck shot and now a broken bat ball that finds a hole.

Clearly speaking of the one at bat??

You quoted a post that said "young guys continue to get big hits in big situations".

The implies continued success in multiple situations. And your reply of "and then there's Choo" does not clearly speak to ONE at bat TONIGHT.

Anyway... WGAS.
