Shouldn't the experience of a new $500M ballpark be enough of a draw for a season or two?

I agree with Evan Grant's assessment, and I think 2019 is too soon to splurge on a high dollar FA SP. I think you keep your powder dry for another year. Wait until that top flight FA's peak (the first 2-3 years of his deal) aligns better with when you think your rebuild will start to pay off.

I thought it was a $500M stadium paid for by the city and $500M Economic Development paid for by the Owners, with the whole property "owned" by the city so it couldn't be taxed.

Still doesn't take away from the fact that it costs $1.1B to build

Yeah... but the people paying for $500M will be interested to see what THEIR money provides. That is committed. The other $500M... or $600M... we'll see it if it is spent.

You know... kinda like all the payroll conversations as the 2017 payroll dropped from $165 to $133M in 2018. Unless we go out and make a huge splash in FA, I don't see the 2019 payroll being more than about $115M.

The last time Texas' team payroll was outside the Top 15 was 2010.

At $115M for 2019 they'd be in the #20-22 range.

Not going to happen the year before they open up a new ballpark.

Look at what COTS shows for 2019, and get back to me with your projections of where they are... and where you think it will end up.

If they are not contending... paying $10M for a Cashner or Fister type is just throwing money in the wind to look like you are a spender.

Why would you root for one player to outplay another player on the team you root for? Especially when one has a contract that can significantly handicap the team if he doesn't perform. Best case scenario for the team is for both Odor and Profar to play great, trade Elvis and Beltre at the deadline, then plug in Pro at SS and IKF at 3B.

She said she has watched him working relentlessly to get back on track. She said he was always there early, working on both offense and defense. He really took his poor results last year to heart. Beasley showed him where he was being considered one of the worst players in MLB.

So, he has used that to motivate himself to get where he is today.

After the big contract, I'm guessing he got too full of himself, and just assumed he was a success.

They didn't say if Perez would head to the DL, or just get pushed a day.

If someone was getting bumped, I could see Colon, however, I think they want to give him every chance to get 1 more W. Might be looking at a 6 man rotation.

He also started this year off horrible. He's probably never going to be a .300-.320 hitter, but if he puts up numbers like this along with stellar defense, Ill take it.

Was kinda hoping we'd go after Greg Holland too. Prorated portion of league minimum. Another arm in case Perez went down again or we got rid of Big Sexy.
