I agree it should take a decent haul.
It would resolve some roster issues.
Gallo has indicated he doesn't want 3B. Calhoun in LF, allows Choo (if we can't unload) to play DH.
The problem I see is, we are chasing SP after SP. We have a number of studs on the way, so we'll end up with tons of SP, and have to trade for bats in 2 to 3 years.
To be fair, we need bats and pitching now. Beltre has the best BA on the team at .290 and we know he is gone soon, either in a trade this season or after a final season next year (hopefully). Next on the list is Choo at .285. We may be shopping him but we won't get much in return unless we eat a good bit of salary. After that, we have quite a few .250 to sub .250. Gallo is hovering around .190 and has a career .197. I know BA isn't the end all-be all of hitters stats any longer because of advanced stats, but I like to use it as a general gauge of a hitters ability.
The Phillies have two top 100 pitching prospects that are expected to arrive next season. I'm sure we couldn't get them both but one might be a good addition to next years roster.
Edit to add: your comment regarding trading for bats in 2-3 years is kind of the life cycle for teams competing for titles. This year, teams are trading for mostly pitching. In a few years, if we are stocked with SPs, we can trade them for bats to get us to the post season.
