You have a perfect 8th inning guy in LeClerc. I can understand pitching Martin in the 8th until he gives up a hit but damn now you bring LeClerc in for the 2nd night in a row to clean up the mess. Not making it easy on him.

I'm ok with moving Kela IF we get some high level prospects to build around. He's done great this year and his 21/21 in saves going back to last year is great but we can develop a closer. Let's ship Kela to a contender and get some talent in return.

Better be a damn good deal.

Hopefully a good starting pitching prospect.

40 games in a row for Choo.

Don't you know Choo reads Texags? Now you done ruined it! Definitely ending now.
you obviously don't baseball

Oh i have definitely baseballed plenty in my life. I just think it's absolutely ridiculous that people think just because someone not involved in the game says anything about a no-hitter or perfect game that is happening through 6 innings that it has any effect on the outcome on the game. But go ahead and blame a post on texags for minor blowing it in the 7th if it makes you feel better.

I won't blame gigem1223 for Minor losing his perfect game bid. I'm just saying Minor coincidentally lost his perfect game AFTER gigem1223 said something about it

gigem1223 was operating in a gray area, where he didn't specifically state perfect game or no hitter but he did comment on something special occurring. It's more likely someone else watching the game, that is a fan of the Rangers, mentioned he had a perfect game going.

Most articles I've read speculate it will be a Buyers market for relievers.

2019 starting lineup?
Beltre 3B
Profar SS
Odor/IKF 2B
Guzman 1B
Mazara RF
Deshields CF
Gallo LF
IKF / Trevino C
Choo DH

I could get behind that. Not as a division winner, but as a growing young team with financial capability to add pieces/pitching.

Chirinos has a "Club Option" for $2.375M I don't think IKF is ready to endure a full season catching in Arlington. Let's see how he does come August heat.

As the article mentions, Beltre will come with a DH role to some capacity and then Calhoun looms.

Choo is currently: .287, 14 HR, .396 OBP. He should be sellable. It is just a matter of how much money we pickup. He has 2 more years, IIRC.

I'm on board with Beltre. I have to wonder how much the decisions for Beltre and Andrus are related?

If you trade Beltre, and don't sign him as a FA, Andrus likely walks. If you renegotiate Andrus (pay him more), then Beltre is a no-brainer to keep.

Honestly the Rangers without Elvis would feel weird to me. I really like him a lot as a player and as a teammate. I I think Elvis could take on a similar kind of leadership role to Beltre as he gets older, provided he stays here. But at what point do you just pack it in and do a total rebuild? Elvis is 29. He's still got (in theory) several good seasons ahead of him.

I don't think IKF is built to be a full-time catcher but he has a ton of value as a utility infielder plus backup catcher.

agreed. it also helps not holding a backup catcher on the roster at all times.

Still not as weird as the Rangers without Young.

Why?

Money?

Fame?

Womenz?

He got married in 2017 and his wife is expecting their 2nd kid, IIRC.

He is slated to make $15M for the next 5 years.

He is having a "down" year. What does he get? $20m? $25M?

IF the Rangers end up without Beltre, Andrus and Hamels, and don't really replace them... it will be a rough 2019.

I think Elvis' injury this year was the best possible outcome for the Rangers. It now is doubtful (but not certain) he passes on exercising his opt out clause. That gives the Rangers the freedom to do as they see fit with Profar.

I'd quit moving Profar around and let him be the full time 3B going into next season. You need to get what you can for Beltre in July. Then you go into next year with:

IF: Guzman, Odor, Andrus, Profar (This is good for several years)
OF: Gallo/Choo, DeShields, Mazara (wish there was better hitting here)
C: Need to fix this
DH: Choo/Gallo

Outfield really needs to be better hitting and catcher needs to be fixed. But the future of our everyday players looks good - as usual, it's the pitching that needs to be fixed.

Pretty sure the Rangers don't believe they will be in contention yet in 2019. Elvis can make more money on the open market, and I have to assume his old buddy Michael Young will remind him that it's a business and you have to take care of #1. I don't put much stock in the emotional argument of kids/attachment/etc. If anything, most folks want to make as much money as they can to secure their childrens' future.

I have nothing to base this off of... just my perception... but Elvis just seems like a guy that just wants to go out and have a little fun playing baseball, have a good time in the dugout, etc. and is not all that concerned with winning a division. Again, my perception.

Yes, you need good clubhouse guys, and obviously you want them to enjoy the game... but if Elvis is going to lead this team, I wanna see some fire out of him.

Am I missing something?

I hear that all the time by guys who've made $75M... "I'm just not secure that I've made enough for my kids, and what I really need... is a bit more than the $60M still owed."

5Yr/$15M per ($60M) is what he is owed to age 34.

Motivation is one conversation. I don't know what motivates him. He seems to really be close with Beltre. I think he really enjoys the team, and most players have mentioned his return (after injury) changes the team clubhouse. The fact he is recently married and kids shouldn't be discarded. I have no idea how plugged into the community she is.

The second is are the Rangers interested to do what it takes to keep him. Does he want $25M? $30M? Longer terms? I don't know.

It is your thoughts when you said "I can't see how we keep Elvis" that you think the Rangers won't pony up the money? That he prefers the glamour of a NY or LA?

They had several really good mid-level SPs back when we made the Cliff Lee trade in 2010.

Bedard, Noesi, Pineda... Much like Holland and Harrison, it seemed every off-season there was hope one would emerge to support Felix and never really did.

I too am very cautious about anything we get from Seattle, even if they are highly rated.

My thoughts in no particular order:
*He wants a chance to win.
*Knows Beltre ain't gonna be around much longer.
*Boras won't let him sell himself cheap, and he's not going to go all Pudge and punk his agent to sign with the Rangers.
*Believes there could be money left on the table (endorsements) in Texas vs. other opportunities.
*Knows this could be his last big contract.

And thus will ask the Rangers to pay big. And with Profar in the shadows and the Astros lighting the world on fire, the Rangers aren't going to do it.
