He also gets his liberal head caved in on the politics board regularly. All around terrible poster.
Another example of how you know he is an Astros fan trolling as a Rangers fan?

Other than one exception, He NEVER comes by to post after a W.

He has one comment after a W and it was a win over Houston. The only Rangers games he watches are when they play the Astros. Weird.

Choo will be an interesting case.

He is predominately (although not exclusively) a DH. That eliminates most of the NL.

As of now, NYY, Cleveland and Houston with WCs: BoSox and Seattle, without any else really sniffing around.

Cano will be back for Seattle. LAA finds out in 2 weeks if Ohtani returns.

Not sure a market will open up for him.
Really hope JD can pull some magic at this trade deadline. If he can ship Hamels, Choo, and maybe Beltre for some top notch talent this awful season would be salvaged in my opinion.

That being said I think Hamels has ruined any chance he had at being top level trade deadline material. He's been awful this season compared to his older self. Maybe he's pissed off and a change of scenery will fix that, but he's certainly not doing himself any favors right now

I think we'll have to pick up a significant portion of Hamels remaining salary this year to get much in return. Also rumors he would want a team to pick up his option for next season to waive his no trade if they are on his no trade list. Yankees seem to make the most sense to me but they aren't as free spending as in the past.

Be nice if the younger guys would pay attention to Choo's approach at the plate and try to learn something but seems like wishful thinking at this point.

I think Hamels can still be a difference maker if someone is willing to go after him. His splits are pretty good:
Home: 7 GS, 4.91 ERA, 1.341 WHIP, 44.0 IP, 36 SO
Away: 7 GS, 2.40 ERA, 1.161 WHIP, 41.1 IP, 49 SO

April/May: 7 GS, 4.08 ERA
May: 4 GS, 3.20 ERA
June: 3 GS, 3.54

He has 3 bad home games:
4/8: 5.1 IP, 5 ER
5/27: 6.1 IP, 5 ER
6/7: 7.1 IP, 5 ER
--------------------
19.0 IP, 15 ER
Else: 66.1 IP, 20 ER = 2.72 ERA

Also, don't forget RPs. I think that could be another benefit. Diekman is a FA. Barnette is controllable.

I don't think we're going to get "top notch talent" for any of these guys. Choo is slated to make $42 million for 2019/2020. Hamels just isn't the pitcher he used to be. He won't be brought in to be an ace on a staff. Beltre, as much as I love him, is a 39-yr old 3B who has already been on the DL twice this year. When he's healthy, he's still a great hitter, but I would imagine you're really bringing him in for leadership qualities. We may get a couple mid-tier prospects, if we eat a lot of salary, and some lottery tickets.

Andrus may be the best option, so he really needs to get hot quickly now that he's off the DL. Even then, he's likely to opt out of his contract at the end of the season which makes him a rental and keeps his price down. I would imagine teams will come calling for Kela or Leclerc, but I would expect the Rangers will hold onto them.

Yeah, I think the best those guys will bring are underwhelming higher level minor league prospects, or riskier boom-or-bust types that are still at the lower minor league levels. In the case of both Choo and Hamels,a lot of it will depend on how much of the remaining bill the Rangers are willing to foot.

Hamels to the Yankees seems to be a no-brainer move, but don't know how much Yankees would be willing to part with.

I don't think Elvis goes anywhere. I know he's a Boras guy with an opt-out but I really think the Rangers will do their best to persuade him not to opt out and make him the cornerstone franchise guy to maybe retire as a Ranger. Worst case, I'd bet if he opts out they will just give him a new contract.

Agree. I think they keep Elvis, one way or the other. I'd firesale every over veteran, but he's one that I think they lock down in keeping even if he does opt out.

I know Astros fans don't want to hear it, but Andrus is 117th All-Time in GP (1394) by a SSs (not GP as a SS).

At 29, say he gets 150 GP/yr (he has averaged 153, until this season) for another 6 years = 900. 2294 puts him at 17th by age 35-36.

With 1360 of those GP already at SS (20@ DH and 14 @ PH), he could be pretty special.

Jeter had 2668 GP at SS: 255 HR, 351 SB, 3371 Hits, .310 BA.
Vizquel had 2649 GP at SS.
Honus Wagner had 1887 GP at SS (AFAIK).

Many guys, didn't play entirely at SS. For instance, Cal Ripken had 2297 GP at SS, 670 GP at 3B. Yount played 1473 @SS, 1145 @CF. ARod had 1264 @SS.

I know it is WAY early to be tracking, but like Beltre, Andrus can put up some great numbers for GP as a SS.

Jeter and Vizquel are the ones. Andrus about half way to Jeter.

JD has to extend him. I'm hoping Beltre and Pudge help get it done.

I would also like 1 more year of Beltre at 3B.

Came across this today re: Mike Trout. I know it's not Rangers-related, but damn!

Quote:

Trout will be playing his 1,000th career game on Thursday, and already is on a collision course for Cooperstown.

Barry Bonds didn't have 224 homers in his first 1,000 games. Ken Griffey Jr. didn't have as high as Trout's .308 batting average. Only Willie Mays and Alex Rodriguez hit at least .300 with 450 extra-base hits and 150 stolen bases, and no one in baseball history had racked up more than his 60.5 WAR.

My God, since he became a regular in April 2012, he has never gone longer than two games without reaching base. In the last week alone, he reached base 25 times in seven games, with a double, four homers and seven RBI.

In the history of baseball, only five players have a higher career batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage than Michael Nelson Trout: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams, Rogers Hornsby and Jimmie Foxx.

Well, to those that are underwhelmed (which I'm not going to debate), I think we can all agree that she's a lot hotter than that granny usher we have to watch every game in Arlington.

I don't know whose weener that granny is sucking to keep that prime behind homeplate job, but she must be damn good at it.

Sadly that is helpful and revealing about you.

Enough people care that they not only track positions, but have gone through and manually added them to box scores.

Retired Ag posted this thread regarding Adrian Beltre and 3B

He included George Brett, Chipper Jones and Wade Boggs.

Beltre has 2693 (and counting) GP at 3B.

Brooks Robinson is listed with 2834 GP.
Boggs had 2197 GP at 3B.
George Brett's defense started to diminish and his career was extended moving him to 1B. 1685 GP @ 3B, 460 @ 1B and 54 at DH.
Chipper Jones' defense started to diminish and he was moved to LF. He had 1983 GP @ 3B, 356 in LF.

I get enamored with Trout (and his stats) on almost a weekly basis. He's like the created player on a video game, it's just ridiculous. The guy is talked about yea, but we are watching a top 10 player of all-time, and I want to hear/see him as much as possible. I don't think a lot of people realize what he's done and/or what he is doing. Guy has finished in the top 1/2 for MVP in 5 of 6 seasons (winning 2). He finished 4th last season because he only played 70% of the season. He will add a 3rd this year, where he's having his best season yet. Truly remarkable.

And he's still only freaking 26. I think honestly he could end up being a top 5 all time player. It's not that much of a stretch.

The thing that I find so bizarre is it doesn't really seem like he's marketed that much. Right now I think Aaron Judge gets a lot more run as the "face of the MLB" than Trout does. Hell, I almost feel like Ohtani was talked about more this season in terms of Angels coverage than Trout was. Pretty strange. You just wonder when he's gonna get a legit shot at the postseason, the Angels seem to just be consistently mediocre. I wonder if he'd entertain opting out and going elsewhere at any point.

I'm not sure he's going to get a legitimate shot with the Angels. Admittedly, I know nothing about their farm system, but I just don't think it's going to happen with Mike Scioscia again.

Just think, if Trout played for the Red Sox, Yankees, Cubs or Dodgers, he would be overshadowing Judge as far as marketing.

I knew you Astros fans wouldn't like it. Predictable. Don't you have a replica World Series Ring to polish, or something.

I guess nothing validates an Astros fan like coming to a DFW/Metroplex/Rangers site to beat your chest.

Maybe you can get a series of Rangers bobbleheads and destroy them for your media room.

THAT is something else.

See, with Trout, they posted actual stats that show he is very good (HRs, BA, everything else he does). Your novel about Andrus literally only talked about how many games he has played as a SS and nothing about how he's actually performed.

PS - I actually think Andrus is very good, even as an Astros fan

PPS - I'll go back to polishing my replica ring before I go to the game tonight
