What do you think about Gallo being at #2? Not sure that is the place for a guy who strikes out a lot. If DeShields is on and looking to steal, he may have to take more pitches, which doesn't bode well for this strikeout numbers.

But I guess on the flip side, he may be more likely to see a fastball if DeShields is on and they think he may be stealing. Grooved fastballs tend to end up on the other side of the fence. I'm sure they had their analytical guys figure it out and decided to give it a shot.

I think it's a crapshoot, really. Dude just needs to get on base and not strikeout as much.

Teams seem to be putting power in the 2-hole now.

I think it's worth trying. He's not a 3 or 4 hole guy in this lineup, so instead of 5 (or worse), roll the dice and put him in a place to get get more AB.

As with probably a lot this season, why the hell not?!

His overall approach and at bats in general improved a lot from 2016 to 2017, even if his batting average didn't necessarily show it. He worked the counts deeper and didn't swing at as many bad pitches. If he can take another similar step this season, it should show up in his batting more and get him into the .240 to .250 range. He obviously has the power, just needs to keep progressing.

Could be a rough season, but Opening Day is always fun. Go Rangers.

I'm not sure what to think about him in the 2.

He strikes out a lot, but his OBP (.333) is pretty high, as well. You get the R-L-R-R-L. Odor has shown nothing to lead me to have him high in the order.

Gallo had 1 AB at #3 and 4 at #4. Everything else was at the bottom of the order (5-9).

So, a guy with tremendous power and a high OBP now sitting at #2 with protection could help him reach MVP numbers. I see him more as a #3 hitter, but because he is a Lefty, it would mess things up in terms of alternating righty-lefty.

Here is a nugget worth considering. What does having a Lefty batting with DeShields do for his speed on the bases?! You may want to put DD on your FBB roster if SBs are a key stat.

If you see DD get many SBs early, you've really created a nice advantage. DD can focus on slapping the ball to get on base (and/or BBs), knowing he is as good as at 2B. Now you have a guy in scoring position, where Gallo easily moves him along or scores him. IF they don't just decide to put him on, in order to face Andrus.

This could be a real brilliant move, or Gallo could suck and get dropped in the order.

Anyone know what the story is on Willie? Was expecting him to be in the opening day roster. Although I've been out of the loop recently, last I had heard he was having a great spring and some have him picked as AROY.

Sent down to work on his defense. And he got off to a hot start at the plate I believe, but cooled off after that. Also think it has to do with giving Rua one last chance before deciding if it's time to move on or not.

Gallo is a high on base guy. Banny wanted to stack a bunch of high on base guys at the front of the lineup. Let's us move Choo to 6th and Odor to 8th. At least that was his reasoning

Agreed on Willie.

Started hot, then slumped badly.
Rua/Robinson getting final opportunity.
Willie to work on D in minors, as opposed to MLB.
Get an extra year of control, so likely won't be up until after that date, unless emergency.

Well expectations are low, but the hopes are high. Here is to another season of Rangers baseball.
