Easy under
Is this a real line?

Bovada has him at +240 to hit 50 homers

So a realistic O/U is probably like 46-47

56 would have him matching or exceeding his 1st half pace. No way

Well, he does play in a little league park...

His numbers are going to fall off once major league pitching gets a scouting report on him. He'll still be ROtY but he won't be a legit MVP candidate.

At what point are they going to "get a scouting report" on him? June has been his best month of the year.

I also think he could fall off the pace some and still win the MVP if Trout doesn't hurry back and play well after this injury.

But I do think under. But would love to be wrong.

Under because they will stop pitching to him.

His HR per AB rate through the first half is basically double what it was at any point in the minors (basically 10% vs. 5%). At some point, I'd expect that to normalize again. So mid 40's sounds about right.

I think he will be a legit MVP candidate even if his numbers do dip a bit.

Aaron Judge if having a heck of a year!

The BA will have to be what wins him the MVP because its crazy that Springer could come close to 50 and have roughly the same numbers (with the exception of batting average) all from the lead off spot....

Even if the numbers are equal, a Houston player will never win it over a yankee if it's in any way close.

Tell me the last time a Yankee won it who didn't deserve it...

And don't tell me A-Rod just because he used PEDs.

Fun Fact: He hit his 29th homer today against the Blue Jays. The rookie record for the Yankees was Joe DiMaggio, with 29. Even if he falls off in the second half as some are predicting, what he's done before the all star break is nothing short of amazing.

He will fall off, but he's had an MVP first half so no shame and not being able to hold the pace he set.

The rookie record for home runs is 49 by Big Mac. Next up is Frank Robinson with 38, Albert Pujos with 37, & just a couple of years ago Jose Abreu with 36.

I think it is safe to say Judge will climb the list and probably finish at least 2nd if he stays healthy.

can we also use this thread to discuss the overdone hype of Mookie Betts?

someone tell ESPN he's not the best outfielder in baseball in 2017 with an .851 OPS

I am a fan of Betts, but you are 100% right. He's getting all the love because of where he plays.

Mookie Betts is a very, very good player.

I think ESPN thinks Aaron Judge is the best outfielder right now.

American League hitters are catching up to or surpassing Judge now.

Altuve has blown by him in the batting race.

Cruz has passed him in RBI and Correa is just one behind.

he still leads in HR's by 3 over Springer

To be fair, Altuve was about where Judge is now only a week ago. He's been *that* hot lately.

This. Compare their splits and the home/away disparity between Judge and Springer is night and day.

If their HR totals are even remotely close at the end of the year, give me the guy who can play CF with those numbers over a RF every day of the week.

The hit tracker page is really useful for addressing a comment about what kind of park a guy plays in at home. You can look there for the actual data on each homer. It shows that of George's home runs where he got "just enough", only three of them were at Minute Maid. It also shows how many parks would hold (or not hold, as shown in the column) each one. 22 of his 27 would have been a home run at most ballparks.

There's even an overlay function where you can choose any ballpark to show which home runs would have gone out of that park too. Again, only three of George's homers would have been short at Globe Life Park.

It's also worth noting that his average true distance is over 406 feet. And that 12 of his home runs traveled more than 420 feet, which I believe I heard on tv was second in the league behind Judge (who has 15).

I know plenty of you already know about this, but for those who haven't seen it, here's a link:
