This would not have been an equal swap. It would have merely shifted the burdens and the costs from the Astros to the Rangers, from Astros ticket holders to Rangers ticket holders.

This right here is why I can't get behind the Rangers. Yes, it would have shifted the burden of costs from the Astros ticket holders to Ranger ticket holders. If you would ask the Rangers ticket holders, I'm sure 95% of them would have been fine with this small gesture. Instead, the Rangers organization comes out looking like crap and are dealing with the backlash.

If they wouldn't be OK with it, they're about as pathetic as the front office. That's also my opinion.

You're posting on this thread ----> ***** Official 2017 TEX vs HOU Trash Talking Thread ***** and yet you are talking about keyboard warriors and offering to give you office number. Let me know how that goes for ya.

You're talking about the perceived heartlessness and motivations of the Rangers organization and someone in the Rangers organization is offering their personal phone number to discuss it with you.

I can see how it played out. I'm not on here saying it's the worst thing that's ever happened, just that it's bush league. I don't feel the need to discuss over the phone with someone I don't know. I will, however, go to a trash talking thread to express how I feel about it.

Curious to hear whether a minor league venue was ever considered, like Dell Diamond

I thought of that as well.

One of my die hard baseball friends said that the clubhouse and seating arrangements aren't up to MLB code.

Exactly. Even though swapping would negatively affect rangers financially and their end of season schedule when they are in the playoff race, they should have been unselfish and bent over backwards to make sure the astros were taken care of during this horrible event.

I would think that would be the easiest and best solution for all parties. Not sure why it didn't happen.

The Pirates and Cardinals just played a game in a Single A park in Williamsport, PA. There was a game played last year on a military base. I'm sure something could have been done.

I agree. Aside from swapping series, a "neutral" site like Dell Diamond would have been perfect. Fans from both teams could attend, all the proceeds could go to relief efforts.

Indoors and a place they can have all week for their next series doesn't seem like a bad idea to me.

In the end, I'm mostly concerned with ensuring the Rangers don't have a schedule advantage over the rest of the league. Tampa mostly achieves that short of having the games in front of a surely partisans astros crowd.

I agree a place like Dell would have been perfect, but the games above were planned and the buildings met compliance with MLB standards.

One day notice and MLB doesn't make exceptions sadly. Personally, this makes me love the rivalry we have more, yet hate the MLB front office.

LOL this is literally the conversation I had with him.

Unless they cancel/move the games, the Express already has scheduled games this week in Round Rock.

Personally, I would have postponed the series. Helping fellow Texans is 1000 times more important than baseball at this moment in time.

Postpone the games to the end of the year. If the games are necessary for WC and seeding for the playoffs, play them out. Otherwise, cancel them and move on with the playoffs.

Mets/Astros at a neutral site makes sense. Save the rivalry games for when it might matter most.

A low level employee who has been spouting off for 24 hours offering to take a call so he can keep spouting is a truly thoughtful gesture by the franchise and its decision makers indeed.

Rangers want to stick up for their fans, fine, and you want to stick up for that decision, fine. But let's not get carried away here...

I got to think that MLB gets priority over minors, especially when the minor league ballpark owner is involved with the pro team

Do you not see the difference between a preseason game and a series that has playoff implications? The Astros did not think it was fair to the rest of the MLB teams who are competing with the Rangers in the wildcard to have the Rangers play an extra 3 games in their home ballpark. This is not that difficult to comprehend.

so you are thinking of all the other MLB teams, but forcing the rangers to go on a 12 game road trip to end the season is fine because its fairer for everyone else?

If Houston clinches the division with 10 games to play are they going to play all their starters versus the Rangers since it wont be fair to other teams if they don't?

I think we all see that they are not 100% apples to oranges, but they're in the same ball park.

I'm a Rangers fan so take it for what it's worth, I really think the Astros are being more of a baby about this than anyone. There is precedent. When the storm rolled through a few years ago and affected Balitimore, they did something very similar to what Texas is proposing.

If you are the Astros, I think it's disingenuous to say the Rangers are being selfish while saying that the Astros are doing this because it would be unfair for other MLB teams that the Rangers got 3 extra home games. Come on...really?

The fells on Baseball tonight last night apparently said that the offer by Texas was more than reasonable. Ryan didn't like that he didn't get his way and *****ed about it to the media. I think, in a way, that is using the tragedy to manipulate the situation much more than what some think are the Rangers' motivations.

The Astros would have had to do very little travel. Be closer to their homes and families. Kept all profit AND got a huge donation from the charity event during the Angels series. How is that not a good offer by the Rangers? And don't forget, many Astros fans might have been able to go to the games and get away from their troubles for a couple of hours.

The Rangers have every right to say no to the proposal, which they did, but the Astros did not think it was fair to everyone else to give the Rangers an extra three games at home. It is just not that difficult to comprehend, but it is amusing that the Rangers (and a lot of people on here) are acting like the Rangers were doing some sort of goodwill gesture for making an offer that would give them an extra three games at home.

The Rangers having a 12 game road trip is quite a bit less impactful on the integrity of the playoff race then the Rangers getting to host 3 extra games at home, imo.

At the end of the day, both teams were doing what they thought was best for their organization and fans. Both points are valid. I'm far from anything resembling a Jon Daniels fan, but he and the organization are being unfairly demonized in this and that rests at Reid Ryan's feet. I don't really grasp why Reid Ryan's depiction of things has been pushed forward as somehow unassailable but Jon Daniels statements are brushed aside as excuses. I don't buy for a minute that the suggestion of playing in Arlington had a damned thing to do with gaining a competitive advantage or greed. The man isn't a monster or some unfeeling b***ard. In all likelihood he knows people in Houston who's homes have flooded. I know folks want to make this into an easy decision, but it isn't and that's just how it is.

I hope everyone is doing ok at this point. We have been extremely fortunate at our home in League City. Watched the waters rise Saturday/Sunday night but didn't get any water in the house. I have family, friends, coworkers, you name it who have lost everything they ever had. One husband/wife set of coworkers evacuated to a friends house and had to be evacuated a second time from there. I've watched fellow posters on this site post real time about water creeping to their house, coming into their house, and having to make the decision to leave their house. This whole thing sucks. I can't wait for it to be over. Thank God the end appears to be in sight. Stay safe and stay dry guys.

The scenario is probably not a good comparison because of diff circumstances, but the Yankees did make other offers that Balt rejected.
