He's not going to fix the strikeout problem but he's a plus plus fielder (which we desperately need in the OF) and he was swinging the bat pretty well before he got hurt. Here's a blind comparison of two outfielders, take a guess at who's who:

OF #1 - 0.231 BA, 0.432 SLG, 0.744 OPS, 1.0 WAR (0.2 dWAR), 9 HR, 24 RBI, 0 SB and 45 K in 191 PA

OF #2: 0.246 BA, 0.423 SLG, 0.754 OPS, 1.1 WAR (0.4 dWAR), 4 HR, 13 RBI, 5 SB and 44 K in 164 PA

#1 is Springer

#2 is Gomez

Many Astros fans feel Springer's approach at the plate is very similar to Gomez right now and obviously it shows in the stat line. His previous 2 seasons he was much better at the plate. Hopefully this isn't a new trend for Springer.

No. The point is they both are having bad seasons. The difference is one fan base is eager for our All Star RF to be benched for a while while the other fan base is eagerly anticipating the return of a dude having a bad season. Both fan bases should feel bad about the seasons they're having.

Hey, I get the defensive argument as well. I was the biggest Adam Everett proponent when he was batting sub .200s solely because of his defense. Doesn't mean I don't mind having a SS that can hit .280 at the moment.

Either way, maybe the rest will help Gomez. I think he's a fun player to watch when playing well.

And even with Beltran sucking hind tit in this lineup we are 16 games over 0.500. You think putting CarGo back in your lineup is going to make that up?

Springer and Beltran could combine to hit .200 and I'd still take them both over Gomez. Watching him strikeout on a 56' pitch to end the game last series was enjoyable to watch. Glad he's doing that for you guys now.

He does still have a little value after having none last year, but he's a mental midget and I want him nowhere near our clubhouse.

Nah but CarGo, Beltre, Hamels and Ross should give the team a shot in the arm in June. I'm not sure about winning the division again at this point but as long as this team is playing to their potential in the second half of the season we'll at least make the WC and be a threat in the playoffs.

I love that the Rangers are having such an awful season that the only thing to cling to is that their 3rd best offensive player (Gomez) is having a better season than our worst (Beltran) who is 40 yrs old and signed to a 1 yr deal

Yall are always so dramatic. Clinging is a bit strong. Will he be an improvement at the plate and in the field? Yes. We've still got our number 2 starter out along with a hall of famer who is being filled in for by a guy who mashes home runs but not much else. He's a decent fielder but not Beltre level. If Banister can get over his Fiers level crush on Dyson maybe we can not throw away so many games. Took him a while with Tolleson last year too.

If there's anything we have to "cling to" in the worst case it's that our future first ballot HOFer 3B will in all likelihood get his 3000th hit this season.

But yeah it is fun that the Carlos we took from y'all on the cheap is playing better than the Carlos y'all took from us for $5mm more.

If all else fails, I believe the recipe for the losing fanbase in this rivalry is:

"Ha gaaayyyyyyy"
"Regression!"
"Your city is worse than ours!"
