DallasAg94,

This isn't about what damn team I support (that's the Nationals above the Rangers or anyone and you know that)

And quite frankly viewpoints of what to do shouldn't be based on what team anyone supports.

It's about giving up your pride and setting aside a rivalry to find the right solution for all sides and stakeholders in time of a horrific tragedy.

Calling the Rangers' offer "more than reasonable" suggests the Rangers passed over options that would be more favorable to them.

They offered to play games at their own ballpark and donate money from those extra games already earmarked to be donated to charity (and some other money? that wasn't supposed be there's, either)

It can't get much more favorable than that.

That's not all. They also said they would gives the astros all the profits from those games.

How many ideas are there? There's pretty much swap series, play all games in Arlington, or play at a neutral site. I think saying they haven't shown any empathy because they weren't willing to swap the series, which is all that has happened, is overly harsh.

That's not why I don't think they've shown empathy.

There really is only 3 solutions, Arlington, swap, and neutral site. The first 2 put the other team at disadvantage so the only reasonable solution is a neutral site. I just wish they could have found somewhere closer than Tampa

Neutral is the right and correct choice. I think it's unfortunate it'll be in Florida but I think Tampa is about the best neutral site available for the coming games.

Fair enough, and I have no complaint with this.

I just find it weak that ryan decided to throw a fit and throw the rangers under the bus

Fair enough. Not too difficult to see the wisdom of that decision at this point.

ETA - should have taken the extra step to make neutral site games the rule in natural disaster situations like this and we could have avoided all this mudslinging crap

Oh i agree with this, its a crappy situation all around and Ryan definitely should not have said anything.

You Ranger fans do not get it. This is not about baseball or a business decision. It is not about being "fair". It is about going above and beyond in a bad situation. Whether Reid Ryan was right or not, he is going to get a pass because of the situation.

Google Texas Rangers and some of the stuff being written and tweeted. Tons of tweets about calling them the Arlington Rangers because they do not deserve "Texas".

I will say it ratcheted up my attention to a series before fb starts. For that I thank the Rangers.

Texas Rangers: Houston, come up here where it is somewhat dry and fairly close to your families, take our gate, concession profits, be the home team.

Houston: F that, we'll go to Tampa Bay.

That works well....if you are a Rangers fan. Everyone else understands that the Rangers would have lost some by switching series. And the majority think they still should have done it at least from my googling.

If "it's not about baseball" then why don't they postpone or cancel the series and let the players do what they feel is best for their families and community in this time of great need?

Since when are we putting so much stock in what the Twitter mob says? An executive of a team in a city that has more or less been destroyed throws another team under the bus - of course the public will side with him without knowing all the facts. That's how media works.

Let's not forget what job Daniels is hired for and who pays his salary. His job is to put his team in the best sitaition he can.

I agree 100%. And that doesn't make it right. He's acted like a *****.

Your first problem is judging twitter as something reasonable. Social Media is full of mouth breathing morans. There have been several articles written by those that actually know how these things happen that have explained that the rangers have not been unreasonable.

No, they said switch series. Which most rational people would think is the "right" thing to do here. Unless you are concerned only about money and/or playoffs.

Look, I have always liked the Rangers and pulled for them except when they were playing the Astros. In fact, when the Astros sucked, I pulled for the Rangers to beat the Astros if they needed the wins.

This is Bush league and if you switched positions I would say the same about the Astros. Do any Ranger fans really believe they are going to make a playoff run? C'mon man.

I like how this gets painted as if Jon Daniels demanded the series be played in Arlington or trying to pull a fast one on Houston. He simply gave it as an option if Houston wanted to take it. They didn't, so on to Tampa we go.

Does it really matter if twitter is reasonable? All that matters is perception when you are in the entertainment business. We shall see.

During the bonfire tragedy, Mack Brown called RC and said "ANYTHING you want, we'll do - play the game, not play the game, ANYTHING you guys want. Just let us know. We're here for you".

Why couldn't the Rangers just say that to the Astros? Let the Astros decide whether to swap series, play at neutral site, or play all of them in Arlington.

We don't disagree that public opinion has gone against the Rangers. The issue is why (Ryan is a *****) and if that's fair.

Those aren't the same situation at all is why. There was a tragedy and a sporting event and that's where the situation ends. We can keep pretending this was some simple thing, but it wasn't. At all. And it shouldn't have been made public with half the information the way it was. I see people talking about PR but the Rangers likely weren't thinking about PR because they likely weren't expecting Reid Ryan to run to the press and put the most negative spin on it he could.

you know the strings, per Ryan the Rangers also asked for next years 1st, 3rd and 7th round draft picks in addition to $2M cash to play the games in Arlington.

Because it's obvious that Reid Ryan doesn't like the Rangers and was more than happy to suggest they give up the late-season home series and thus have a tougher road to the wild card.

Thing that gets me.... Rangers said they wouldn't switch home and home (which would be the most reasonable) because of "inconveniencing" our fans who had tickets in September. So either he really means it, wants to help the Astros, but has his hands tied by crap fans who wouldn't understand switching a series to help out a devastated city, or it's a crap organization with a crap excuse.

Those are the only two reasons for why the Rangers wouldn't do that.

From what I've read, Reid Ryan just told it like it happened. The negative spin is coming from anyone that can read without red and blue glasses
