glad to see that no GM's were dumb enough to take on Verlander's insane contract

Wild hot take alert here, but I'm actually fine with it because if Dallas and Lance are on form then we have a shot at the world series, and if they aren't, I don't think we're going to win it anyway.

I don't think we needed to give up any big pieces when really, for me, this year comes down to whether we're healthy going into the playoffs or not. And if we're not, then we're not winning anyway so why give up pieces for the future.

I'm as die-hard of a stros fan as you can get. But to only make one mediocre move on the deadline sucks. There is no reason to hold on to Tucker or Whitley if all of your core players are gone when they get called up
The goal is for those guys to become the core players. You are always going to lose guys to free agency, so you have to have the next wave ready to take over.
Win. Now.
Is that you, Drayton?

Don't get me wrong, I wish we made more moves. But I'm not willing to over pay. If some of these guys were traded, and we sat pat because we wanted to hoard prospects, I would've been pissed. But clearly all these teams thought the asking price was way too much

We didn't get outbid anymore than teams weren't willing to deal their usable pieces

No one else got Darvish, Hand, or Britton

Verlander could still easily be traded after the deadline.

No GM in his right mind is going to put in a waiver claim on him and get stuck with his $28 million salary just for kicks and grins.

Once he clears waivers, the Tigers could deal him to whoever they want and eat some of his salary in the process.

Some of y'all need to relax. We're the second best team in the league, in the easy league and are hampered by injuries rn. Keuchel is still a good pitcher, and once Correa comes back we'll be in good shape.

And if we do get healthy we're at a disadvantage in the bullpen & potentially game 3/4 starters.

I guess not going to get Brit or Wilson hurts the most. One power lefty who has proven themselves as a recent power lefty would have completed the team IMO. Give up one top prospect for him, call it good. Just don't like being this stingy when you have such a good shot at winning it all, while everyone else is getting better

and regarding Sonny Gray to the Yankees...that's the Red Sox' problem for the next 2 months.

I would still rather face NYY in the ALDS than Boston (because of Sale)

I feel like we are still the best team in the league when fully healthy. Just my opinion -- or what I choose to believe.

Don't forget the waiver trades. The dealing is likely not done. Here is some reading. I'd forgotten the Larry Andersen/Jeff Bagwell trade was a waiver deal.

We obviously don't have good options there, but it's not like the front office doesn't know that. If there would have been even a remotely reasonable deal on the table I think we'd have taken it.

So since there presumably wasn't, I have no problem with us deciding not to overpay for one. I know that's not exactly dramatic, but just how I view it.

I wanted one of Britton or Hand, but hard to know how negotiations went. With neither of them being traded, their teams probably think they can get more this winter.

I'm very disappointed Lunhow did nothing of significance. This team really needed a solid left handed arm in the bullpen. I don't think Liriano is that. As for our starting pitching rotation, it's been shaky the last month. McCullers has been atrocious his last five starts and you need three surefire starters to make a World Series run.
