Facts aren't lame.
Agreed. Facts like 95-53 head-to-head record all-time. Facts like 53-23 since the Astros moved to the AL. Facts like 28-10 since the Astros become a decent team.

You are right. Those facts are awesome!

What turned me off to the Rangers was as soon as they saw some success all these fans showed up on social media that I'd never seen. All of a sudden they were propping themselves as Texas' team, similar to a university in Austin.

The fans of the Astros I've seen have been there through thick and thin

As someone who followed the Rangers since the '70s, it is YOU that just showed up, not Ranger fans. Had Houston had similar success during the time you speak of, you would have seen the exact same thing. Unfortunately for the Astros, they've largely sucked or, at best, been mediocre in the social media era (last ~10 years).

There isn't a nickels worth of difference in the fan base of either team. They show up in good times and stay home in bad. Both teams have nearly the exact 72-3 percent average of attendance each year recently compared to the biggest yearly draw. In other words, the Astros have averaged about 73% of the attendance they had the year they peaked and the Rangers have had about 72% on average. The Ranger's peak, incidentally, was about 12% higher (3.4 vs. 3.0 million).

So if this truly turned you off, then you were out there looking for something to complain about. Besides, why do the actions of a fan base matter to you when selecting a team? I mean, yeah, when we're talking about the Philadelphia Eagles and throwing stuff at Santa Claus, that's one thing. Fans posting about supporting the Rangers when the Ranges are playing well turns you off? Please.

This thread still alive?

It's simple. You pick the Astros because they're going to be good this year - and you get to laugh at the rangers fans when they suck.

Problem solved.

Obviously.. because a team in Texas resigned Carlos Gomez and actually thinks it will help them.

I would think he's saying to base it more on the projection.

I wish the Astros were still NL.

I used to have a team in the NL and the AL that I followed. I didn't necessarily root for one or the other.

I guess it's the Rangers...and that's simply because Houstonians started crying because they kept the roof open on minute maid when it was over 75 degrees...once...

Baseball is meant to be played in the sun. Close it once it hits 90-95 but baseball in the 80s is awesome.

That thing should be open unless it's raining or it's warmer than 95 degrees.

Indoor stadiums and the designated hitter make baseball better. Complain about something important like ball players wearing their pants down to their ankles.

I meant to say **pitch clock**. Like in basketball. Talk about that kind of nonsense in the works. Extra innings with a baserunner starting out in scoring position. Automatic intentional walks (without throwing the 4 pitches).

All in the name of "making baseball better."

Indoor stadiums only when it rains. DH should be outlawed. Pitchers surprising hits in the 9 hole spot are awesome.

Imagine your memory has been wiped clean, but you somehow know you love baseball. Or maybe you grew up in Iceland and learned to love baseball. You have no loyalty to specific laundry, no obligation to cheer for the same team as your dad. You can pick any team to be your team.

For 2017, you just might want to pick the Houston Astros, the most fun-to-watch team in the majors.

The bottom line is the Houston pro sports fan has two asterisk championships and nothing more. They are sad little ******* and bleed constantly over anything metroplex. Want to be a *****, be an astros fan.

Late to the game. But bottom line OP is the Stros don't need you. We're all full up.

Check into the Albuquerque Isotopes. They may be more your speed.

Not at all. Stros fans have been following baseball for decades. I know this is news to our friends up north who thought it was a brand new sport a couple of years ago.

Texags is literally the only place i've ever seen where Rangers fans try to convince people that the vast majority of their fanbase aren't johnny come latelys. I say that knowing how big of a fan my grandpa (RIP) was of the Rangers.

That may be because TexAgs is literally the only place I've seen people try to convince me they are and I say that having lived in Houston since 8th grade with the exception of my time at A&M.

Well... damn. If head-to-head records from the past are a determining factor in deciding what team to root for, I guess I should start rooting for the Longhorns as well.

Claims Rangers fans are bandwagon fans, then encourages a new fan to be an Astros bandwagon fan.

Majority of rangers fans out side of dfw are band wagoners. It's a fact. Attendance has nothing to do with band wagoners because people who live outside the area aren't going to be able to go.

OP obviously doesn't are about baseball anyways so who cares which team he picks.
