The hope with Calhoun is that his bat is good enough that you can live with the mediocre defense. I don't think he's going to be an amazing player in LF, but if he can keep above water there defensively, I'm fine with what he'll give us. I don't think he's quite a liability there.

Joking aside... I'm willing to endure a Calhoun-DeShields-Mazara OF, with Choo @ DH and Gallo @ 1st, if it means we sign Darvish and get Ohtani.

I would love to trade Profar and Choo, but you just never know.

Yep.

A good arm vs a bad arm in the outfield is probably worth 10 runs a season, on the high end.

Range might buy you another 20-30 runs a year.

Delino is probably a neutral outfielder with his arm, as his range makes up for it.

Mazara is probably a slight minus, his arm is decent enough, but his range is not.

Choo is well, Choo.

When Gallo plays 3B consistently he is at worst an average defender, at best plus. He has a plus plus arm that is great at 3B or LF and he held down 1B pretty well during his time there. He is not at all a defensive liability.

Yeah, I think Gallo will be just fine at 3B. Not gonna be Beltre, but no one is.

I agree. Gallo isn't Beltre, but basically nobody in the MLB outside of Arrenado and Machado are that good. Gallo is just fine playing defense. I'd ideally like him to play 3B or LF. But he's just fine at 1B too.

In other news, Derek Holland got released by the White Sox today.

Dang. He may be done. Probably looking at being a non-roster invitee next spring.
