I just heard on the radio that 4 years ago the Rangers turned down a trade for Stanton. Package? Matt Harrison, Martin Perez, Mike Olt, and Jurickson Profar.
Yeah, sucks to look back at, but this is a classic case of hindsight being 20/20. 4 years ago, that was a ton to give up. I think Olt was a top 5 prospect in the Rangers system. Profar was the top prospect in the game. Perez was young, talented and went 10-6 w/ a 3.62 ERA in his age-22 season. Harrison was coming off a 2011 season where he went 14-9 w/ a 3.39 ERA and a 2012 season where he went 18-11 w/ a 3.29 ERA.gigem1223 said:

Gallo has RF written all over him. He has a strong arm and Springer-type athletic ability. Gomez in CF, and you can hide DD's arm in LF. He throws as well as Rickey Henderson.Quote:
I'd like to see Gallo at 1st. Platoon Choo and DD. Bring up Calhoun to DH.
We're going to have a logjam as long as Choo is here. That will especially be the case if Guzman and Calhoun are up w/ the big club. No matter the configuration, the OF will be pretty weak defensively. Some will shake out post-2018 if Beltre retires, but the way he's hitting, I don't think that's a guarantee at this point. Do the Rangers re-sign him after 2018 if he wants to continue playing?Huell Babineaux said:
It's okay for now but playing Gallo at 1B is wasting his arm.
Mazara needs to learn 1B, but Guzman also plays there and I'm fairly certain he's gonna be up here all year in 2018
If Beltre wan'ts to keep playing, you need to keep him around. At least as long as he is still a serviceable player and can play the field. Obviously we have a logjam at DH, so hard to stash him there on a full time basis.RetiredAg said:We're going to have a logjam as long as Choo is here. Agree on Beltre, and I think Choo is here till 2020.Quote:

Speaking of which, not sure how many years we have left on the Choo contract, but I think we need to eat some of it and try to move him to somebody needing a DH (maybe Ichiro will retire after the season and Tampa will take him). Choo is still serviceable as a hitter, but it's hard to have him, Mazara, and possibly Calhoun on the same team all being LH hitters and limited in the field.

That would be nice, but need at least 3 out of 4. Winning just two ends up being a waste of four games on the schedule that we need to keep moving up. Obviously all four is the most optimal, but hard to do even against the White Sox.Seven Costanza said:
Probably too much to ask, but a sweep would be nice before this long road trip.

White Sox have the worst record in the MLB, yes?Seven Costanza said:

Umm... I only see ace pitchers among those names... what are you talking about??free_mhayden said:
Well, at the end of the day we are still rolling Tyson Ross, Andrew Cashner, Martin Perez and AJ Griffin out there.
Even sweeping a historically bad team like the 2011, 2012 or 2013 Houston Astros would be tough with those 4 arms.

Shhh,... there are Astro fans monitoring this thread. They might get wind of this and find a way to get their GM to pull the trigger on a meaningful trade

My bad on the DMs... Y'all send me your address and I'll put a hat in the mail.
MooreTrucker... you can get a Beltre figurine by purchasing a ticket and going to the game
MLB and the NHL do it as a way to draw in STH and keep them.free_mhayden said:
Is there a reason MLB hasn't moved to the NFL/NBA method of "pay as they play" ? Seems like a money-grab.
