Really like the look of all the hats this year, last year was garbage.

I haven't really kept up with the off season or spring training, but most of my phone alerts haven't been real positive for the Rangers. Should I be...."eh, it's spring training", or is there some concern here?

Nothing overly good, nothing overly bad is pretty much where things stand.

I'd say the only significant thing (for future years, not necessarily this year), is that it's starting to become more and more clear that Gallo is going to be a bust as far as top prospects go. That K-rate is just too bad for him to be a productive MLB player.

Well I think the hope after last year was that his floor was a Chris Carter type player and that maybe he still had a chance to become a Chris Davis if he changed some things in the offseason and got that K% under 40%... And teams were still showing interest.

But 19 K's in 25 at-bats this Spring... That's just... Lost.

Gallo seems to have added between-the-ears problems to a contact problem, which has only enhanced the contact problem. I think he went down and raked at AAA for a while, but when that wasn't rewarded quickly and thoroughly enough, he seems to have entered angry, frustrated hacker mode to the point where he's worse off than he was when he got called up 2 years ago.

What I see from Gallo is what I've seen in myself... and trying help my boys with.

Gallo has shown he can perform (at his peak) at the MLB. Now he has to decide to prepare so that he can perform at the MLB every day.

My boys take private music lessons and he is great... and not just as music.

They both have asked him how much they need to practice. He said, "How good do you want to be? If you practice 2 hrs a week, you won't be as good as if you practice 4 hrs a week. So how good do you want to be?"

Their teacher tells them, "Don't practice until you can play it perfectly all the way through. Practice until you expect to play it perfectly every time."

Gallo is stuck between where his natural ability reaches him and the level he thinks he wants to be. The difference in that gap can only be achieved through dedication and hard work.

19Ks in 25 ABs? Really. Yeesh. Time to move him to the fields in the back.

Maybe the 19k's in 25 ab numbers include intersquad scrimmages or minor league games?

DMN reported that AJG and Hauschild are emerging as the final two to battle out for the 5th spot. They went on to say Colby might be brought back, which tells me the options for the final rotation spot has a bunch of spares, two not-spares, and an aging crippled FA who either wasn't offered by other teams (at least not enough), or didn't want to play for other teams.

If a decision were made today, I'd bet the 5th spot would go to Hauschild
