Tyson Ross got lit up, last night.

5.0 IP, 10H, 1BB, 8 ER, 3HR, 2K

If you give up more HRs than Ks... probably not a good outing.

Will he rehab another game?

Looks like he's done. His first rehab start was promising. Wonder what happened

Brewers called up Brinson. He's their No. 1 prospect

Maybe we can trade Lucroy and get him back

And I missed Tyson's 2 HBP.

He has turned it on. I seem to recall looking at his numbers last month and wasn't real impressed (unless I'm thinking of someone else the Rangers traded).

However his .312, 6 HR, 7 SB and .397 OBP is getting it done.

Keep in mind when the Rangers traded him, he was Rule V eligible in the offseason, and at 23, he had some more work to do in the minors. Some of the players the Rangers have traded away the past 3-4 years have been depth that couldn't be protected on the 40. Prince Fielder, et al, DL players count on the 40, during the offseason, as there is no DL60.

Him plus Ortiz would be nice to have sitting in the minors. But at the time I don't think anyone wouldn't have done that trade. Good luck to them both.

It would be nice, but I still contend one or both would have been lost to Rule V. Milw can stash them, as Philly did with Odubel Herrera.

After the 25, you get 15 spots during the winter and that includes guys on the DL60.

Guys currently on the DL60 and not on the 40 (5):
Alberto, Diekman, Fielder, Chi Chi, Tyson Ross

- Dyson was on the roster
- Faulkner was on the roster (traded to Balt)
- Tyler Wagner was outrighted during the season
- Hauschild (Picked up from Rule V from Houston and returned during season0

Guys on the 40 in the minors:
7: Guzman (22), YoMen (22), Nicholas (28-C), Profar (24), Robinson (25), Sadzeck (25)
3: Bass (29), Gamboa (32)

Guys picked up during this season:
O'Brien (26) - May 27
Blackburn (24) - April

So, with the 25 + 5 DL60s + Dyson + Faulkner + Tyler + 7 minor leaguers... you are sitting at 40.

We may not have been able to sign Cashner or Ross. You had a question mark at 1B (Napoli). Roster flexibility is key in the Winter and while we don't ahve the depth we've had in the past couple years... part of those players traded away were guys who had Rule V coming up.

Won the series already, don't even care what happens today. You'd have to think this is a big time lopsided pitching matchup, but whatever

As if pitches down and in like that that are strikes aren't already damned near impossible to hit, let's go ahead and give Max another two inches inside.

That was just mean of Scherzer to throw a slider like that to Austin.

He really has. I didn't have high expectations but he's been pretty solid for what he is.

Scherzer is really good at burying that slider in to lefties. Hard to lay off and impossible to hit well.

All things considered ABD has been a bright spot for the pitching staff this year. He's eaten up a ton of innings without giving up a ton of runs.

And he spoiled that slider. Small victory for an AL reliever turned starter.

Of course he also struck out on it again but whatever.

I'm not a fan of rewriting narratives. He was absolutely someone we were counting on being a player for us in the very near future, and had been aware of for a while.

The Rule V considerstion was discussed after the trade last year. I recall Evan Grant saying he had a conversation with JD about it being a factor. So it's not exactly rewriting anything. Doesn't mean they couldn't or wouldn't have found a way to make a spot to kee him, but there would have been a sacrifice they had to make.

The ultimate back-handed compliment. My grandmother was a Pro at back-handed compliments. She could turn anything positive into a deep personal dig.

When I was dating my now wife and she broke it off... "You lost a good one." Her context was I would never find another woman as good as her... but I was good enough to attract her for a little while.

My favorite was "You still look good, even though you've put on some pounds. You should probably start dieting, soon?"

I'm convinced God left her on this Earth just to torment me.

Maybe I'll dig up some past posts. For the past 3-4 years, I've mentioned Rule V eligible players during the trade deadline. And many were included in trades.

There is no rewriting.

Brinson was certainly in the plan for the future. We had 3 OFs... Brinson, Mazara and Nick Williams. The question becomes... can they develop in time to make the roster.

Brinson was struggling in AA and the question became what to do with him. I think the Rangers were looking at him being at AAA at least a full year, with him projected to be a 2018 candidate. And whether or not he'd make it through the Rule V.

I did a quick search... it won't pull up the link to the actual post, but here is what came up for the search of Brinson isolated to my username:

between giving up Mendez\Ortiz\Profar\Gallo, or giving up a next tier guy, or some soon to be Rule V guys, like Brinson. At this point, I'd be looking at bringing

I no longer have stars, so I can't do a full search. That was July 20th, 2016, right before the trade deadline. It has a comment about Rule V Brinson and him being part of a trade package.

Revision?

Per Evan Grant on twitter:

Most consecutive batters retired by a Ranger this year in one game: 16 by Austin Bibens-Dirkx.

I didn't see him swing at anything egregious there. The pitch he struck out on was clearly a strike.

Unfortunately with Profar pinch hitting for him, ABD won't get the win. Still hell of a job today
