I had bought some tickets for the game on Saturday against the Red Sox, but being that I'm in Dallas and Houston is flooded, I might not make the trip down.

I have 3 to sell if anyone is interested.

They're in section 423, row 3.

Paid $35 a ticket, so looking for the same OBO.

So frustrating because Feldman struggled with location so much in the first 4 innings. Then in the 5th, he throws one of the best innings I've ever seen him throw. WTF is his problem?

Whatever Strom has been doing with our pitchers, he needs to stop. They've all had nearly the exact same issue. Even Keuchel (though he seems to recover his control much quicker).

Agree...they routinely miss their spots early on. It's so frustrating.

I'm having trouble figuring out how that's on Strom? He doesn't coach them to go and throw chitty. Seems to me our guys just suck and can't throw strikes.

Dallas and Colin buckle down and get it done. Fiers is fine until he leaves one flat and up then it's a dinger. Feldman sucks something fierce. Fister I'm waiting to withhold judgement since I haven't seen enough of him.

They're just not good pitchers

Every one of our pitchers seems to have had the same issue to start a game: they can't locate their pitches. It's a consistent problem with all of them that has been present in all but 1 or 2 combined starts. The best one(s) battle through it and then seem to be fine.

I'm not 100% saying Strom is at fault, but it sure seems like something common to all of them is going on behind the scenes somehow. Maybe it's just the offseason rust, I don't know.

Here's my plan:

1) Wait patiently for McCullers and bump Feldman to long relief duty
2) Start teaching Bregman LF asap
3) Cut ties with Gomez, move Rasmus to CF, call up Bregman to play LF
4) Cut ties with Valbuena, call up Moran and let Moran/Marwin rotate at 3B
5) Cut ties with Gattis and call up Reed
6) Get a better situational hitter in the 2 hole and move Springer down

This lineup would excite me in June/July (although it may be 1-2 years away from championship mode):

1) Altuve 2B
2) Bregman LF
3) Correa SS
4) Rasmus CF
5) White DH
6) Springer RF
7) Reed 1B
8) Moran/Marwin 3B
9) Castro C

Guys, I love to dog on Feldman; but his ERA of 4.11 this season is 2nd on the team in pitchers who have pitched over 10 innings; 4.11 really isn't that bad for a 4th or 5th starter; Fiers and McHugh are both around 6.5, and Fister is at 7.5

Fiers 1.38 WHIP coupled with a 6.48 ERA is ridiculous until you remember his miserable first outing; and the fact he's given up 6 freaking Home runs in 16 innings of work.

I'll take that next year... But that would make us rely on wayyyyy too much young talent in the playoffs...

Reed is hitting like .230 in AAA right now.

Let's just not waste great hitting like we did in 2000 with this.

I like it in the future but right now that would taking a step backwards.

Bergman is not better than Gomez
Reed is not better than Gattis
Moran is not better than Valbuena

Agreed. We are all guilty of prospect bias, but that's insane. Gomez will be fine, so will Gattis.

Now, Valbuena and 1B/3B is an interesting situation. Luhnow did an interview this morning and said that Moran was really close to making the team if it hadn't have been for Tyler White just forcing himself onto the team. I believe in White's bat, but the dude has been ice cold since he won AL player of the week. He has plenty of options, so I could see him going down with Moran coming up if (heaven forbid) Tyler White continues struggling.

Has really been that bad lately?

I knew he had cooled off but still seem to think he was producing at a decent clip. Kinda like going 2-5 instead of 4-4

White hasn't been bad. Even when he isn't getting on base, he's having good at bats. He will be tough to push out of the lineup. The thing that will most likely hold him back is his fielding.

Like Bagwell said. White's swing isn't pretty, but it's very effective.
mwm

Bagwell calling White's swing "ugly" is like the pot calling the kettle black. Bagwell would certainly know "ugly" but would also know productive, too.

Bagwell did say "mine wasn't pretty either." and then he smirked.

I think he sees a lot of potential in White. He needs to work on his defense, but the guy just flat out hits. You can't really coach that.
Ag_07

Why do you guys see his defense as suspect?

I think he's been pretty good and even better than expected. I can think of two plays that he didn't make and one was due to a busted glove. The other was the grounder that he didn't snag after drifting too far to not cover once Altuve got it in the hole.

He's made some nice plays and has been solid on the routine stuff. Some work is needed to fine tune it but he's ahead of where I thought he'd be.

There was the one yesterday where he was trying to turn a DP and almost pulled CC off the bag.

I think Gattis will be what we got out of him last year, and I'm okay with that. Keep in mind the dude has been injured. He deserves a shot and support.

Gomez... I just don't know. Love the way he plays with emotion. LOVE it. But I haven't seen this fantastic defense that he's supposed to have (although maybe he's a guy that makes hard plays look easy, I don't know), and his bat has been ice cold since he's been an Astro... And this is a pretty decent sample size.

I dunno man. Gattis finished last year with a .285 obp, .748 ops and 0.5 war. Maybe I'm a little too bullish on Reed, but I think he could give us those numbers as a minimum + he can play in the field + he has considerably more upside. With that said, I'd take Gattis over Gomez or Valbuena.
