Beras has never played about A+, is a .262 hitter striking out 25% of the time, and while I know nothing about his defense, he has a poor fielding % for an outfielder.

Personally, I take a chance that someone isn't going to draft him and keep him on their active MLB roster for an entire season. The Rangers can surely find someone better and more likely to be lost to use a 40-man roster spot on.

If they do, I feel like it has to be partly driven by even the slightest fear of having to explain to ownership why a guy they threw $4.5 million at just got taken for all of 50 thousand bucks in return.
