Place looks like a cavern. I sure hope our new Ballpark allows more natural light than that.
I've been to games where quite a bit more natural light comes in, just depends on the time of day, of course.

But seeing how the plans for the new Rangers stadium looked a lot like Minute Maid with Rangers logos posted on it, we'll just have to see. :-/

Except the plans showed a glass roof, didn't they?
That's what I saw... looked kinda like what they put over Wimbledon. Wonder how a glass roof would affect fielding fly balls (if at all).

Ask any baseball player how they liked playing in the astrodome when the roof panels were clear.

18 games over and +16 run differential. We got blown out a lot the last couple of weeks.

Which means the Rangers will play in a cavern. I hate indoor baseball.

Been to many gams at MMP indoors. Not a cavern at all. You'll appreciate indoor baseball once you realize how comfortable you are watching a 1:00 pm game in July

MMP does not look as dark as it does in that pic.

I've taken many rangers fans to Minute Maid, they all like it esp in the summer. I don't think you'll be disappointed with a roof.

Don't pitchers usually experiment and pitch differently when on rehab assignments? Seems like I rarely see guys throw up the stats you'd expect them to in AAA

Yes, they are generally concentrated on mechanics and making sure things feel right, not trying to strike out every hitter.
mhayden

They aren't trying to strike out every hitter, but in a pitcher's 2nd rehab start before potentially coming back, giving up 6 hits in 5IP is certainly a cause for a little concern.

Obviously the #1 concern far and away is that he feels fine, but you'd also like him to feel fine and be pitching well.

This is not the same as a guy going back down the minors to work on a different approach or a new pitch.

What were his numbers at Round Rock before coming back the 1st time? I don't remember them being too amazing.

We just played like dog s*** for 2 weeks but are on top of the AL and have a 5.5 game lead on the division. We get Darvish back coming out of the break and are on the market for an elite SP to bolster the rotation further. Oh and we don't have to play the Twins again.

The biggest riser in the eyes of SportsLine -- by a mile at that -- are the Rangers, who the system expected to finish under .500 coming into the season. Instead, the Rangers have the best record in the AL and a 5 1/2 game AL West lead. They've done that while getting little from the first base and DH positions -- Mitch Moreland and Prince Fielder have an 83 OPS+ and a 67 OPS+, respectively -- and only three starts from Yu Darvish. Good health and bullpen help is the priority here going into the second half.

Lucroy? Yes please.

Likely for a BP arm, but I can dream. Who knows. Maybe they'll put a package with Lucroy and a BP arm together.

MLBTR's Tim Dirkes seems to think that 4 for 60ish will get Desmond done this offseason.

So is he the future in CF or will they let Brinson take over?

Brinson has taken a step back this year. If you can get desmomd 4/60, I jump on it.

4/60 seems way low for Desmond if he maintains this all year.

That would make Brinson a player we could package in a deal for a starter. I would be in favor of that trade. But situations like this are why I'm glad I'm not a GM. Desmond has played MVP (at least for our team) level baseball this first half. Signing him would seem to be the right move. He's been incredibly fun to watch, and he has adjusted very well to CF. But... What if he's just having his best year ever, and he reverts back to what he was with the Nats? The last thing the Rangers need is another contract that they can't really trade out of. Regardless, I would say sign him, and hope someone falls in love with the potential of Brinson.

I know it's not necessarily smart to think in these terms, but Washington fans couldn't WAIT for Desmond to sign elsewhere.

I just always fear contract year production outliers.
mhayden
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm guessing Desmond commands more than 4/60, but if that is what it ends up being -- that's not a contract that really hinders your long-term plans.

Mediocre Ian Desmond is a 1.5-2.0 WAR player... So if he does revert back even in the first year of his contract, we're still only talking about an overpay/waste of $5m/year.

Compared to someone like Prince Fielder who is sitting at -1.9 WAR which means we're basically throwing away $30m+ in player value this year on him.

But if Desmond keeps this up, 4/$60 isn't realistic IMO.
DallasAg 94
How long do you want to ignore this user?
4/$60M seems way low. More like 4/$80M, but what do I know?!

If you get 4/$60M, I agree. Go for it.

Rangers fans were happy to see Kinsler go, until we got Fielder.

Not sure why Wash fans didn't like him, but he has served the Rangers well.

AND... 2015 was a contract year, as well, so...

Brinson... I need to check on his season. I thought he was hurt. I also was under the impression his Ks were down, which has been a priority. Everything I recall about Brinson is, his defense is a given. His hitting has always been a work in progress and anything you get from him there, makes him more of a complete player. IIRC, his arm, defense, speed are all plus. His hitting was below average, with an ability to be average to plus. Don't recall power, but think that was lacking, as well.

So, to say his Offense has regressed, would really mean it has gone to what has been projected.

If you can sign Desmond for CF, then trade Brinson, for sure.

Would love to add:
Jonathan Lucroy
Andrew Miller
Keone Kela
Sonny Gray
Yu Darvish

And it will cost... LOTS and LOTS.

We need another starter and a reliever before we need to worry about a catcher (Lucroy). I see getting a Lucroy as a luxury if we can get a deal value wise, otherwise I'd stick with what we have at catcher.

Drew Pomeranz????

Don't know much of his history. I see he is contracted through 16 at $1.35MM
