Brinson... I need to check on his season. I thought he was hurt. I also was under the impression his Ks were down, which has been a priority. Everything I recall about Brinson is, his defense is a given. His hitting has always been a work in progress and anything you get from him there, makes him more of a complete player. IIRC, his arm, defense, speed are all plus. His hitting was below average, with an ability to be average to plus. Don't recall power, but think that was lacking, as well.

According to Scott Lucas from the Newberg report today:
"Brinson is batting .423/.483/.923 in six games off the DL and has homered in three straight. I'm no doctor, but whatever was ailing his shoulder doesn't seem to be bothering him anymore."

#'s for the season: 243/.298/.477

JD wants Lucroy bad and won't rest until he gets him. Obviously, SP is the #1 priority, but there are a lot of times when this team despite all the names on jerseys, could use another bat

Catcher committee was out producing everybody there for awhile, but it was bound to return to earth and it has. Bobby Wilson simply isn't going to hit a grand slam every couple weeks. Lucroy is someone that could bat high in lineup and solve catcher issue for this year and next. Plus eventually you get the additional draft pick

I'm preparing myself to lose some coveted prospects. Long term, I don't think they will ever resign Yu and that puts a little more emphasis on now.

I was able to get on the field last week for BP. Moreland still has unbelievable power. I don't know if there is any market for him, but I think some fringe team would really benefit of having him out there everyday.

If the Rangers do go for Lucroy, I think a couple dominoes need to fall, first...

We have 4 Catchers on the 40, already
Nicholas: 10 GP \ .257 \ 2 HR
Wilson: 26 GP \ .241 \ 3 HR
Holaday: 30 GP \ .238 \ 2 HR
Chirinos: 27 GP \ .205 \ 6 HP

We need to move at least one of the 3 not in the minors. We need a SP, before anything, unless we want to run Martinez, Chi Chi or Lohse out there after the ASB.

Darvish & Kela costs us nothing.

It sounds like Lucroy could cost us Gallo & someone at rookie ball like Taveras or Tejada (per Rosenthal).

Pomeranz, Gray, anyone else... I think we'll have to give up either Luiz Ortiz or Yohander Mendez.

The thing about Profar... I'm mixed. On one hand, I don't think they'll trade him based on his flexibility and success. On the other, I'm not sure 2 years without playing lends himself to being available in Sept/Oct. His sparse use I think is pacing him.

Get a SP.
Include C in package, if possible.
Get a RP.

I agree and am in the same dilemma of thoughts. You do realize that the moment he is sent somewhere, Andrus and/or Odor will get hurt!

Do you think Pomeranz will demand that high of a ticket price?

Looks like the Pomeranz talk is heating up. Rumor is SD wants Profar. Not sure how I would feel about giving him up.

Yes, I am aware of the impending injury.

I have no idea what it will take.

The Rangers had drafted Pomeranz, but didn't sign him. So, Preller had knowledge of him. The A's got basically Claudio and Moreland equivalents, when they traded him to SD.

I don't think Profar goes unless it is a higher tier SP. I think we would have to give up a AA-SP (Yohander Mendez or Luis Ortiz) and then another player.

Pomeranz would get the Rangers to the Playoffs, but he won't make a difference in the playoffs.

I would want someone who would make a difference in the playoffs, if we give up Profar.

I could see getting Pomeranz and something else back (RP) for Profar, but not straight up even.

I tend to agree. I just get the feeling whoever gets Pomeranz will get Kazmir type results. He just doesn't excite me enough. Especially for Profar.

I'll tell you this... If we win the WS this year, I'm going to throw a huge party and get really drunk and probably make some bad decisions

I just can't help but think about how the Rangers didn't give up profar, Gallo, or Mazara in the trade for Hamels. Who knows if the Phillies somehow didn't want them, or just wanted the guys they wanted. I know that we gave up other guys with a lot of potential, but you would think that to give up any of profar or Gallo we would be asking for someone of Hamels's level. Who knows though.

Even if Darvish and Hamels are healthy, Pomeranz would still slide in as your #3.

I don't really give a crap about Gallo anymore, for some reason.

I really can't stand his body language and attitude, but I'll be damn if I don't see Charlotte McKinney singing in the shower of a body wash lather when he connects.

Herrera pitches to Herrara , the former Ranger / former SS centerfielder flies out to the Rangers former SS centerfielder . Who is on first?

No kidding. A 1-2-3 of Hamels-Darvish-Pomeranz would be downright filthy. If Colby comes back at anywhere close to the level he was pitching at before he got hurt, you're looking at a dominant playoff rotation.

Teheran was not what I expected. Looked like a whole lot of effort to generate a 90-91 mph fastball.

Pomeranz looked filthy. Do want.

I'll take Andrew Miller too.

Joe Cole

Pomeranz would be nice, but I'd have a hard time using the Profar chip for a guy that just hit his career high in innings pitched at 102

I'm concerned Pomeranz has pitched over 100 IP in a single season, for the 1st time. I just don't know that he is in the rotation.

I'm equally concerned about Perez, Griffin, Darvish & Holland. Colby is a question mark, as well.

To ensure the Rangers clown show continues, the one solid piece in the rotation, busts his chin open and has gone 8.1 IP and given up 10 ER in his last 2 GS.

So... I'm not real sure about anything with the rotation.

The Herrera loss has always troubled me. He had just had a great season in AA and we were coming off of a near 100 loss season. He may not have been a great defender, but we had a roster full of garbage relievers that could have been removed to protect him. It was mitigated by the fact that we had just stolen Delino Deshields from Houston, but we gave that guy away for absolutely nothing.

Basically traded him for DD. Herrera had consistently hit all the way thru, but there was such a logjam at middle IF and they were desperate for OF help. What makes it worse is they let Herrera play OF in winter ball and he was serviceable and still hit (maybe even won batting title?) and yet we still let him go. Phillies picked him right up and put him straight into OF. Herrera does lead league in OF errors I think, but still he is all star and DD is....

Yeah the Pomeranz innings pitched is certainly a concern. This is a guy that wasn't even included with the starters in spring training until he convinced the GM to let him take a shot.

I can tell you this: if we deal Gallo and he makes it up to the MLB, watch the eff out when he plays the Rangers. We suffer from former player killing us syndrome really badly. Doesn't matter how he does against the rest of the MLB, he would hit about .700 against us with homers all the time.

On a more serious note, I would not trade Gallo. It would seem like he's a shoe-in to be our first baseman next season. Honestly I would be totally fine with Gallo and Rua next year sort of trading off playing there against LHP and RHP. Put both of those guys in LF to give Mazara some time off or time at DH. That would work out well.

On the other hand, it would be interesting to see if we could package Rua with someone. He is a very solid player and I like him a lot. He could be a decent piece of a trade. But have we essentially played/injured ourselves into HAVING to give up Profar of Gallo? I would think not, but I guess we will see..
Ag2012

Have to think Gallo is untouchable at this point. Given Mitch and Prince's struggles and Beltre's hammies, he is much needed depth at the corners right now and the franchise first baseman of the near future. The only way I could see justifying parting ways with him would be to get Sale, but even that would sting.
