I think it is a small sample size:

2012: 15 GS, 81.1 IP, 1419 PC = 5 1/3 IP/GS, 94.6 PC/GS
2013: 32 GS, 200.0 IP, 3212 PC = 6 1/3 IP/GS, 100.4 PC/GS

2016: 8 GS, 43.0 IP, 736 PC = 5 1/3 IP/GS, 92 PC/GS

I think you've got to get to 6.0 IP, and this new 100 PC/GS marker, IMO, is dumb.

Used to be like 140, then 130, only like 3-4 years ago. You'd hit 120, and hten start looking at a RP coming in at an opportunity. Now, you hit 90 and it is time to go.

Let's just score 10 million runs this inning. Then I'll feel slightly okay with our pitching going forward in this game

I think 15 (should get you to the 7th) is the max you really want. 12 (should get ou to the 8th) is ideal.

Agreed. This has been an incredibly annoying slump, because I feel like the offense for the most part has scored enough runs to win. We've just been TERRIBLE on the mound. 2 out bases loaded walk to tie the game pretty much sums up the slump

Tonight Griffin had 24 P/IP

And only gave up 2 ER.

It just feels like the all star break can't get here soon enough. This has been a rough road trip. Maybe we'll be better at home in a couple days.

Looks like 6--8 Outs per game about every 3 to 4 games.

I said this last out, even if he gets blasted on occasion, he has done a great job bridging us to the end of the game.

So why not instead of trying to fix this orchestra by jamming another trumpet into it (at a high price) when you've already got a full set of trumpet players you go get another cello in a starting pitcher so that those taxed trumpet players can get a better workload?

You've got 5 plus relievers with a 6th coming.

Only 2 of your 5 starters give you 6 innings.

If you're paying the price of a Top 10-15 prospect (which you'll have to for a plus reliever), then it makes a hell of a lot more sense to instead use it for what your most glaring need is -- a starter that will go deeper than 5 innings.

Which is why you'll see Texas in talks regarding multiple starters and only kicking the tires on any plus relievers.

So to say that a good postseason team needs 7 or 8 proven relievers so Texas isn't in good shape because they only have 5 or 6... So does Texas not get to shift their starters to the bullpen, or is that not allowed?
