In the post above you discuss the price on the high side for adding an ace. Do you really think JD gets crucified for trading Profar? I don't. And I wouldn't crucify him. Their middle infield consist of a 27 yr old and 22 yr old. If he isn't playing every day then he's worth more as trade bait than a reserve.

Chris Davis needed a change of scenery. There was something mental about playing for the hometown ball club. I'm glad he found success, and I don't think the Rangers are really any worse for it. Theyve been to the WS twice and I don't think Crush alone wins the 2010 series with the way Cliff pitched, and we should have won the series in 2011 anyways (SCREW YOU NELLY!).

I might have reservations about trading a bunch of pieces to the A's for the simple fact that I don't want to be terrorized for years by guys like Profar and Gallo, or Luis Ortiz. But I'd be fine if they went out of division, or if you got Gray for relatively cheap. And I understand that is still pretty expensive. All three of those guys may be on the Rangers roster next year, but if they aren't producing and playing every day, or starting every fifth day then I think you're in a spot where you move them for the right piece(s).

Just heard that MLB veteran scouts are currently blown away by the Rangers farm system. Apparently there are 16 legitimate big leaguers, far more than any other farm system. So atleast it seems we have some options.

Profar - I think from fans that are not as intimate with the Rangers, yes. Knowledgeable fans? No. And my point was really more that it is a no win situation for JD. Profar's highest value, IMO, is at SS and 2B. He looked so natural and fantastic at SS, yesterday... but then, he looked great at 1st. I think the Rangers can play 2016 safe, bringing him in as a Util fill-in guy, based on his past injury. But in 2017... as a knowledgeable fan... You have Andrus, Odor and Profar. You are doing a great injustice to MLB to keep all three or move one to another position. Your fans will hate you if you trade one, because their ceiling is very high, yet you are really in a situation that you have to trade one. Knowledgeable fans will get that. But chose wisely because Davis has had greater success than Moreland. Until this season, Andrus was seen as a payroll anchor.

Chris Davis - He might have needed a change of scenery, but this is a drum I've beaten even while he was here. I think they just gave up too soon with him. He gets an exception from MLB and uses Adderral, so it could very well be that helped his swing.

The big battle at 1st was in 2010.. Below are their DOB and experience.
Smoak: 12-5-1986, 1st callup was in 2010. 100 Games in 2010. Traded in 2010
Davis: 3-17-1986. 1st callup was in 2008. 193 Games in 2008+2009. 45 Games in 2010. 28 in 2011. Then traded
Moreland: 9-6-1985. 1st callup was in 2010. 47 Games in 2010

They were a total of 15 months apart, yet Davis had almost 2 years expereince before the other 2 entered MLB. All things considered, it is only worth mentioning because he had a couple big years. For me, it is a more of fun poke.

I totally agree that when you look at the players as assets and the prize winning the WS, you do what you have to do.

I go back to thinking... Hamels + Perez + Darvish + Sale/Gray would not be a terrible thing. And if we had all but Darvish through 2019... it would be hard to not jump.

Herniated disc is baaaad news. The only thing that can be done is to mitigate damage. They never truly get right.
I had one in my neck in two levels (C5-C6-C7).

Had surgery, ACDF, in early March where they remove the disk from both levels, replaced with bone, a titanium cage, and a titanium plate. Mine was in my neck, so they went in from the front. The recovery was not as long/bad because there are not as many muscles to deal with.

After about 8 weeks, I was running, swinging a bat with my 8-year old's team, and pretty much doing normal thing with care. Today, I am normal and have no issues and am not worried about anything. In fact, I went to one of those trampoline places recently and did normal things.

A lower back herniated disk will be much worse for it takes a lot longer to recover and there is less certainty of a re-occurrence.

The back is extremely delicate. Anyone entering their 30's should begin doing daily stretches (yoga style), for about 10 minutes every day. If all you do is take your C, L, and T to it's limits in all directions for about 30 seconds, you will be much better off.

I also recommend that if you have a desk job that you raise your monitor(s) so that the center of the monitor is above your eyes.

Okay, I am off my 40-year old, "You youngins need to take care of your body," rant and let's get back to the Rangers.

Agree with your post except for the bold portion above. Did you mean a higher chance of re-occurrence or did you post what you meant to say?

Not trying to call you out, but I have lower back issues and so do most of the men I know. "Less certainty of a re-occurrence" is not how I would categorize it at all.

It is one of the reasons I love following the minor league prospects.

I first recall really following them in the mid-90s. It was out of necessity. We were churning through so many pitchers, I was trying to figure out if guys being called up were any good, and then I would follow them when they got sent back down. The DMN would publish the stats for the Oklahoma 49'ers- AAA (was it?), the Tulsa Drillers -AA, and I believe it was the Midland team for A. It turned into such a talent pool, and the internet, and all...

As rich as it is, for Hamels in 2015, we traded at least 3 MLB talents (Eickoff-MLB, Nick Williams-AAA, Jake Thompson-AAA). Philly picked up Odubel Herrra before 2015, in Rule V. He is their CF and is ..297 / 8 HR / 16 SB.

The 16? I'll take a stab:
Prospects that have been at the MLB level
Brett Nichols (C-27)- 10 G in MLB. Could be on the Rangers, if not for the 3 ahead of him. He has trade value.
Joey Gallo
DeShields (CF-23): 151 G in MLB
Alberto (SS-23): 65 G in MLB
Michael Roth (P-26): 32.1 IP in MLB
Faulkner (LHP-23) - 19 App in MLB
Claudio (LHP-24) - 46 App in MLB

AAA futures (Round Rock):
Jose Leclerc (RHP-22) - Relief pitcher

AA futures (Frisco):
Ronald Guzman (1B/3B)
Luiz Ortiz (P)
Lewis Brinson (CF)
Yohander Mendez(P)
Victor Payano (P)
Connor Sadzeck (P)

A+ futures (High Desert)
Travis Demeritte (2B-21)* - His PED suspension and 20 HRs this year is still a red flag for me.
Jairo Beras (OF-21)

A futures (Hickory)
Yeyson Yrisarri (SS-19)
DeDarious Clark (OF-22)
Dillon Tate (SP-22)

I think that is 19, so I've overshot by 3. And that doesn't include Profar nor Mazara.

Veterans in RR:
Justin Ruggiano - 456 G in MLB
Neal Cotts (LHP-36) - 416 App in MLB
Lohse (RHP-37) - 416 GS in MLB

Others:
Hoying (27) - Has been to Arlington for 11 G, but not sure he would count.

I think there is a good chance Ryan Cordell makes it on some top 100 prospect lists as well after this season. Very toolsy 25-year old with position versatility and a solid bat.

What I meant to say was that if you have surgery there is less assurance of eliminating a re-occurrence. Meaning that even with surgery on your lower back, you could still have future issues.

Can you imagine if he knew anything about running a team? He might win manager of the year one year and have his team on a 100+ win pace the next.

I can't imagine how many more wins the Manager of the club with the best record would have if he were as good as you. Hell... how good would he be if he met 75% of your expectations... WOW...

Obviously a little sarcasm on my part, but I don't know how you can justify playing him 1-2 times a week
