Yeah, that whole needing a starting pitcher to go more than 3-4 innings pretty much invalidates your claim that there is little to suggest the others aren't better options.

If your starter can't go more than 4 innings then he isn't a good option.

Yeah. Darvish's last outing was 4 1/3 and he had 9 strikeouts. But yeah, he isn't a good option.

Cole Hamels' last 2 outings before the all-star were both under 5 innings I believe, so yeah he's not a good option either. Don't mind the fact that he's 10-2 with a 3.00 ERA

Maybe that should be:

"Are WE (TexAgs) going to get out-scooped by Evan Grant, or one of the other chumps on TwitterSphere?!"

Aren't I always the one to post the official press releases?

Well I'm going to keep calling you until you return my call and tell me to eff off.

The reason for that is to keep active notes so some other schmuck in this office doesn't take a sale from me on the off chance you change your mind.

Unless you're just being sarcastic

TEXAS RANGERS ACQUIRE RHP SCOTT CARROLL
FROM CHICAGO WHITE SOX FOR CASH CONSIDERATIONS
Carroll assigned to Double-A Frisco

Arlington, TexasThe Texas Rangers today announced that the club has acquired minor league right-handed pitcher Scott Carroll from the Chicago White Sox for cash considerations.

The 31-year-old Carroll will be assigned from Triple-A Charlotte of the International League to Double-A Frisco of the Texas League. Carroll is expected to start for the RoughRiders on Friday night at Corpus Christi.

Carroll has spent the majority of 2016 at Charlotte, going 2-8, 5.55 in 16 games/12 starts. He allowed 2 hits and 3 runs in 2.1 innings over 3 relief appearances for the White Sox from May 6-12. Carroll was on Chicago's 40-man roster before being assigned outright to Charlotte on July 14.

Carroll has a major league record of 6-11 with a 4.60 ERA in 47 games/19 starts with Chicago from 2014-16. He was 5-10 in 26 games/10 starts with the White Sox in 2014 and posted a 3.44 ERA in 11 relief outings a year ago. He spent his first six pro seasons in the Cincinnati organization before signing as a free agent with Chicago in July 2012.

We're trading one of our big AA pitchers. I don't know that it is with CWS, but someone in Frisco is going.

He'll be sent to AA Frisco, and right now, our SP in Frisco is solid.

We don't have enough options at AAA., and I don't think we have more than one A+ guy worth being promoted to AA.

Unless Sadzeck is coming to Arlington.

Sadzeck: 16 GS, 3.09 ERA
Mendez: 8 GS, 3.32 ERA
Ortiz: 7 GS, 4.06 ERA
V. Payano: 17 GS, 3.81 ERA
N. Martinez: 1 GS, 3.00 <- Yes... that Nick Martinez.

Or someone is getting bumped up to AAA, where the rotation is woefully undermanned. Or any of those guys (excluding Martinez) are getting near their innings limit for the year before the season ends and they want to start skipping some starts for guys or moving them to the bullpen to better manage their innings.

Don't read too much into an acquisiton of a spare journeyman. Sometimes a body is just a body.

All valid options, however, you wouldn't promote a guy to AAA, if the plan was to limit his innings.

I think it would make more sense for Carroll to go to AAA, than promote one of the guys I mentioned. I wouldn't think you promote a guy from AA to AAA, during the time you are working trades, if he could be a trade chip.

You do make valid points.

That would seem to be a cheap improvement on Lohse for the next GS.

He is rental. Gawd I hope he was traded for Cash or PTBNL.

I agree that one of those guys bumping up is considerably less likely than innings needing to be managed. I mentioned it only cause I know Mendez has made a couple of AAA starts cause they needed a starter.

Acquiring a body is useful if they do end up trading some pitchers out of the minors, which I think is certainly likely. But it will be useful if they don't, too. I don't think this move is indicative of any imminent move though.

The other thing, as mentioned above... I'm not sure how many innings to expect from AJ G. Cashner suddenly gives you the ability to option Griffin and AAA has an arm.

Cashner is making $7M, this year.

So far, we've picked up 2 warm bodies.

My bold prediction....

I think we pony up and put together a package containing Profar, Brinson, and a couple other prospects and go get Sale and a reliever

The last time AJ Griffin went more than 5 innings was May 2nd.

Two of his 3 outings that have gone 5 innings he gave up 6ER and 5ER.

But yeah, he's basically the same type innings-eater as Hamels and Darvish.

Possible season-ending surgery for Prince (neck again), and Choo back to DL.

Historically, the half-assed, mid-level starter deals never seem to work out for this team. But the two clear ace bombshells did. So go big or go home. I'm afraid Gallo is going to be a .210 200K guy. And kong-term, one of the Odor-Profar-Elvis trio has to go. Package both (and plus if need be) and land the big one.
mhayden
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Prince having neck surgery is about as good as Texas could have hoped for. Ignoring the care-factor of things and just looking from a production/$ standpoint -- possibility that he retires and a possibility that the neck surgery is successful enough to actually make him decent again. Better than the status quo.
