Diekman moved to 15 day DL with lacerated left index finger. Diekman DL move is retroactive to July 6 and is eligible to come off on July 21

Chicago, Ill. The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has reinstated right-handed pitcher Keone Kela from the 60-day disabled list. He will be available for today's series opener against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

To make room on the active roster for Kela, the club has placed left-handed pitcher Jake Diekman on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 6, with a lacerated left index finger. To clear a spot for Kela on the 40-man roster, the team has transferred left-handed pitcher Derek Holland from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.

Kela was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 21, retroactive to April 20, and had surgery to remove a bone spur on his right elbow performed by Rangers Team Physician Dr. Keith Meister on April 22. He was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on April 25. Kela has made 4 relief appearances on injury rehabilitation assignment with Round Rock (AAA) and Frisco (AA), posting 4.0 shutout innings with no walks and 7 strikeouts. He pitched in back-to-back games with Frisco on Saturday and Sunday against Northwest Arkansas. Kela went 1-0 with a 7.11 ERA (5 ER/6.1 IP) in 7 games for the Rangers this season before going on the disabled list.

Diekman last pitched on July 5 at Boston, and would be eligible to return from the disabled list on July 21. He has gone 1-1 with a 2.73 ERA in 39 relief appearances for Texas this season and ranks among American League relief leaders in holds (3rd, 19) and opponents average (5th, .165).

Holland was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 21, with left shoulder inflammation. He has a 5-5 record with a 5.20 ERA (42 ER/72.2 IP) in 14 games/starts for the Rangers this season. The first date he would be eligible to return is August 20.

The Rangers' major league roster remains at the 40-player limit.

Wouldn't surprise me if Lewis makes less than 5 starts the rest of the way. He is also on the 60 day DL and won't be eligible to come off until mid August. He'll probably need a few rehab starts, too, so that means he probably won't be ready until beginning of September.

Yeah, two years in a row of a significant issue makes it sound like there may be a shoulder surgery in his future. Elbows are one thing. Shoulders rarely seem to get right.

JD had indicated Holland was mid to late August and Colby was mid August, last I heard. Moving Holland doesn't change the timeline, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have bigger issues.

Don't forget Hamels needed stitches for an apparent laceration he got in his hotel at 5am.

Just bizarre stuff.

IMO, all games are meaningful at this point in the season. Yes, it's an inter-league game. However, everybody in the division is playing today so winning and losing matters.

Not saying your opinion is wrong...I just have a different opinion and think we need take advantage of every opportunity available to separate ourselves from the rest of the division.

All I'll say is that the Astros get the Mariners. As far as Cubs versus Mariners, we absolutely draw the tougher of those two matchups. This is going to be a tough series to start the second half.

I agree with you. Just not at the risk of losing one of our best players for a longer period of time, when we can rest him now and make sure it doesn't get worse.

Stating the obvious here, but I'd rather lose him for a week being cautious than for 2 months because they pushed it.

Probably due to the extra year of control we'd get from keeping him off the roster. Personally, I'd rather have Perez batting 5th at this point. Fielder is useless.
