Allow me to set the stage for you...

She works in Seattle. We haven't seen each other for a month.

Apparently Darvish has been scratched from his Monday start and will get an MRI on his neck and shoulder.

The optimist in me says they're just being super cautious and want to check everything.

The pessimist in me says here we go....
Saw that coming...

While he was examined and nothing found, I would think after a day or two, if he still has soreness in his shoulder, we'll hear about an MRI as a precaution.

I don't want to jump to conclusions. He seems to think this could just be part of the returning process.

It could also be that because his arm is weak and regaining strength, he may be compensating with his shoulder.

Also, he has dialed up 98 several times. I'm hoping he just pushed a little too hard and some inflammation in the shoulder will be fixed with rest. He went 81 (5.0 IP), 88 (5.2 IP) & 76 (5.0 IP) PC.
Ramos tomorrow?

I guess with Prince and Moreland heating up, and Gallo chomping at the bit, the Rangers gave Ike Davis his release and appears to be headed to the NYYankees.

So according to ESPN Juan Uribe is day to day with bruised testicles. The replay looked painful.

To be clear, not laughing at him getting hurt. Just that actually being the official injury.

My wife went to Tech, so I guess you could say 2/3's of the way home. Personally I don't care if Tech goes to Omaha or not, but the fact that they are gives me more leeway with the Misses when it comes to watching more college baseball next weekend.

Yes, Rangers.

Ugh. That sucked. TCU looked like the better team to me. Better defenders with more range. More discipline at the plate. Just tough to lose to those guys again this year.

Ok...

At what point do the A's and Halos mail it in?

Angels are 12 GB - Their SS (Simmons), C (Soto) and 2 SP (Richards/Tropeano) on DL. Tommy "Big Game" Hunter doing the Rangers good, hitting Trout on the thumb.
Athletics are 12.5 GB - Devastated with injuries. SP - Rich Hill & Parker, Red**** all on DL. Sonny Gray has been terrible, but looks to be coming around.

We've joked about getting Trout, but is there anyone (not named Trout) that is worth scouting on either team?

Looks like the Yanks (5.5 GB) might see some teams (Cubs) scouting players.

Twinkies are 16 GB. Next out is the Astros at 12 GB

Astros: 10 GB Rangers / ~ 5 out of WC
Angels: 12 GB Rangers / ~ 7 out of WC
Athletics: 12.5 GB Rangers / ~ 7.5 out of WC
Twins: 16 GB Indians / 14.5 behind WC

ASB begins July 11th.

We need two more reliable bullpen members. JD showed last season that he could go out and get two without paying or giving up much. Can't keep up the pace with the bullpen members we have right now.

The number of reliable arms keeps dwindling. Barnette has been more good than bad, but today's outing was his 2nd or 3rd consecutive rough outing. Only truly reiable guys are the back end guys with Bish, Diekman and Dyson, and we're running those guys into the ground. Up 6-1 we shouldn't have needed Diekman or Dyson today.

Just saw on twitter:
quote:
@SandlerJ: As noted in @TracyRingolsby's story, the #Rangers are 78-46 since announcement of Hamels acquisition. 102 W pace
That's a 102 win pace that includes only 3 starts from Yu, a basically useless Fielder/Moreland, and a shaky bullpen.

And it looks like Fielder and Moreland are heating up. The shaky bullpen is far better today, that it was the 1st half of the games played.

Indeed, it looks like Ramos goes today.

The Rangers' path to the ASB:
@ Oakland (4): 26-36. 12.5 GB Rangers and devastated with injury.
@ St Louis (3): 35-28.
v Baltimore (1): T-Leading the AL West
v Cincinnati (2): 24-39. 20 GB Chicago.
v Boston (3): 36-26. T-Leading the AL West
@ NYY (4): 31-32. Lots of rumors they don't seem committed to 2016, but that can change quickly.
@ Minn (3): 19-43. 16 GB Cleveland
@ Boston (3): 36-26. T-Leading the AL West
v Minnesota (4): 19-43. 16 GB Cleveland

Some weird nuiances, with the Baltimore reschedule (rainout).
Looks like 27 games before the ASB.
7 games against the ALEast leaders. Need to go no worse than 3-4
13 games against bottom feeding Oakland, Cincy and Minnesota. 9-4 would be nice, 8-5 is good. We struggle @ Oak, though.
7 games against NYY & St. Louis. 4-3/3-4, who knows. Hate going to SL. It'd be nice if NYY sells some BP arms before we play.

If we can go 15-12, leading up to the ASB, I would be a happy camper. That would put us on pace for 97 wins. Just gotta find 5 more wins to get to 102.

If we can turn things around against the A's then I think we have some pretty smooth sailing for the division. Beating up on Houston, Anaheim, and Oakland while playing .500 against Seattle the rest of the way would pretty much lock things up. That being said special things are brewing at the moment and the Rangers have a chance for their first ever 100 win season. I know it's super early to be talking like that, but a man can dream

DMN reporting Choo could be activated today.

That would put Rua as a Utility player. According to Banny.

I wonder if Beltre is headed to the DL or we send Holaday down?

Since AccidentProne is off doing whatever it is dating people do... or grad students do...

I'll look at the matchups. Oak (26-36) just broke a 7 game losing streak, by beating Cincy (24-39) yesterday. How much fun must a team 10 games below .500 had beating a team 15 games under .500. Capacity crowd?!

On the DL for Oakland:
Mark Canha (1B): 124 GP in 2015, and 16 GP in 2016. DL60 after having surgery for a torn labrum (May 25th). Replaced with Yonder Alonso (29-LHP- .250\1HR in 59 GP)

Eric Sogard (2B): 120 GP in 2015, and 0 GP in 2016. DL60 (April 2016). Replaced by Jed Kowrie (.303\1HR)

Josh Redcock (OF): Fractured thumb (May 23). Late June return.
Replaced by the great Jake Smolinski (.270 \ 2 HR).

The Pitching matchup:
Ramos v Manaea (24-LHP): 8 GS \ 45.0 IP \ 35 K \ 6.20 ERA \ 1.47 WHIP (These are career numbers, as well).

Perez v Surkamp (28-LHP): 6 GS \ 26.2 IP \ 14 K \ 6.41 ERA \ 1.95 WHIP
Averaging less than 5 full IP. Getting about 13 Outs/GS at 83.7 PC/GS. He has 13 Career GS and a Career 49 Appearances.

Holland v Gray (26-RHP): 11 GS \ 60.2 IP \ 50 K \ 5.34 ERA \ 1.50 WHIP

Lewis v Mengden (23-RHP-A&M): This will be his 2nd GS in MLB

We should absolutely light-up these guys. Giving up 4 ERs in 6IP.

The core of their lineup:
Coco Crisp (CF): .222 \ 5 HR
Lowrie (2B): .303\1HR
Valencia (3B): .335\10HR
Khris Davis (LF): .239 \ 14 HR
Billy Burns (1B\OF): .247\ 0 HR \ 12 SB
Marcus Semien (SS): .233\12 HR \ 4 SB
Stephen Vogt (C): .275\ 5 HR
Smolinski (OF): .270\ 2HR
Yonder Alsonso (1B): .250 \ 1 HR

They have some serious holes in their lineup. Three guys combine for 36 HRs, the other six have 14 HR combined.

Should be a nice series in the Rangers' favor, albeit late each night. 9:05pm Central starts the 1st 3 nights and a day game at 2:35, on Thursday.

I love it right now since my work/school schedule is pretty night centered. I normally come home anywhere from 9-11 so works great for me to be able to catch the game while eating my late night dinner
