It's gotta be extremely difficult to make a big board as a MLB draft analyst. Forty rounds and a ton of prospects with high school players, college players and international guys.

Fortunately for us, the Rangers have some of the best scouts and front offices in the league.

I think it is considerably tough because you have two intangibles.

First, a HS Sr is projected for 4-5 years away. I was 17 when I graduated. I was like 5'8" as a Jr and graduated HS at 6'2". After my 1st year of college I was 6'4". Int'l is even worse when you are signing 15/16 year olds.

Second, what is this kid going to do with a couple Million Dollars. Matt Bush. Josh Hamilton. So many.

63rd Pick - Alex Speas 6'4"/ 180 / RHP from HS in Ga is what he is listed, but the Draft guys on MLBHD said he was 6'7".

Welcome.

Just watched the replay of Odor's home run and he taps his helmet like Gomez as he rounded third.

Thinking of making a trip out to Wrigley for the Rangers/Cubs series July 15-17. It'll be the first game after the ASB so I'm thinking that Friday's game would be the good one to be at with maybe Hamels vs Arrieta?

We made that trip a couple of years ago, and it was a cool experience. It was in April, though, so the ivy was still brown. And we experienced the Great Chicago Flood of 2014. Still had fun, though.

*****Update regarding the coupon code for discount tickets*****

We have a new policy for the weekend games because some brokers got a hold of some coupon codes and were buying and re-selling thousands of tickets. You'd think that would be a good thing, but that's not how it's supposed to work. So for the remaining weekend games, you'll need to work with me directly on getting tickets for those games. You'll still get the discount, but you'll need to call me or send me an email to purchase tickets for weekend games using the TexAgs coupon code.

Please feel free to PM me or send me an email with any questions or if you want to get tickets for those games.

Draft coverage resumes at 11:30am Central, today.

Two HS arms with the 1st two picks.

I think they go heavy into the college ranks over the next 7-10 picks.

Looking back, we've picked about 3-5 HS kids in the Top 12 picks each year, with the majority of those being in the Top 3.

2015: 10 of 1st 12
2014: 8 of 1st 12, 1st 3 picks
2013: 11 of 1st 13, 2 of 1st 3 picks
2012: 10 of 1st 15, 1st 5 picks

Always interesting to look back at the drafts to "see where they are now."

I think college kids are easier to project, more experienced but also more known (good or bad). That makes them, IMO, less of a risk to miss. I think that is where Oakland has really focused. They are also closer to the Bigs and are less of a Rule V risk. And signability.

Having said that... if we do go heavy with HS, it might make sense. They tend to project with a higher ceiling (I think mostly perceived), they join your system earlier and you can influence their development more.

It would make sense to go HS because we have so many young guys entering MLB (Mazara, Profar, Odor) and we have so many to be ready within 2-3 years (Gallo, Dillon Tate, Brinson). Spacing out your talent level a couple more years will benefit us reloading when many of these guys approach Free Agency.

2019-2020 is period where many of our veteran players become FAs, the guys aboe will be establishing themselves and we'll need the next wave ready.

JD tends to take the best player available, in terms of Arms/Position, but not sure how that meshes with HS vs College.

Thoughts?!

Weak. There are some shady brokers on the ticket exchange that I'm assuming found their way here.

You mentioned great success earlier this year which surprised me and raised a flag. Not surprised at all.

We took advantage of the code and enjoyed the seats.

We also wanted to utilize the Welcome Home Darvish code, but VBS and sports activities would not allow.

Next McHugh pitch: Profar squared up and put a ball on the ground, right at Jose Altuve, who didn't need to move a foot to the left or a foot to the right.

But he did leave his feet.

The shot cannon-balled Altuve backwards. The baseball met Altuve's glove and then jumped out of it. Altuve landed on his butt, the ball landed on the ground, Moreland crossed home plate, Holaday advanced to second, Profar safely reached first.

Ian Desmond then struck out swinging for the second time in three innings, which theoretically would have ended the inning had Altuve turned the tailor-made double play, but instead the inning lived and Nomar Mazara singled to left to give Texas a 3-2 lead that would stand up and result in another series win, the Rangers' 10th straight at home, a franchise record.

And now I know, even if it wasn't "tomorrow," what the prescient, forward-thinking visionary Ken Giles meant by "We're going to go out there and put them to the ground."

Rd 1 Pk 30 Cole Ragans LHP (North Florida Christian HS, Fl) - FSU Commit
Rd 2 Pk 63 Alex Speas RHP (McEachern HS, Ga) - Auburn Commit
Rd 3 Pk 99 Kole Enright 3B-SHB (West Orange HS, Fl) - Signed with Stetson

Slot money. Rangers get $5,358,500

That breaks down like this:
30th: $2,003,400
63rd: $1,009,200
99th: $602,400
129th: $451,000
159th: $337,600
189th: $252,900
and on...

Rd 4 Pk 129 Charles Leblanc SS (Pittsburgh) - Junior
Rd 5 Pk 161 159 Kyle Roberts LHP (Henry Ford CC) - Sophomore

I'm guessing it is signability now. I messed up on the slot amount for 159th/161st, but similar. Get a CC guy in the 5th Rd... offer $250K and take the other net money and get the Top 3 signed.

I would think Ragans ($2M) and Speas ($1M) take the money (if not below slot), with Enright getting more than slot?!

For some reason I had Roberts as the 161st pick, but he was the 159th pick. So corrections made within this post.

Lots of guys with a 4 letter 1st name. All but Charles. Weird.

Kyle Cody was a 2nd Rd pick by the Twins in 2015. He was selected in 33rd round of 2012 by Philly.

Looks like the A's placed Rich Hill on the DL. We'll miss him, along with Felix for Seattle.

A's currently have 11 players on the DL. 6 are on the DL60
Halos have 10 and 3.

Houston has 0.

We'll stop there.

I love our front office, much more than any other Dallas sports team,

Baseball drafts are long term chess matches, you have to see into the future for your clubs needs... but also draft for potential trades as well.

Big thank you for the updates on Rangers MLB draft DallasAg 94!
