I'm kinda with Bond there. Let's keep this to baseball if we can.

I never mention or hold it against Chowdah that he's a looney New England liberal type.

Everyone's focused on the hoodie.

I'd be profiling anyone who was walking around with Arizona Iced Tea.

if A&M goes to the SEC, it will be the biggest mistake they've ever made.

Token is the only transfer from the GYN that I can recall who has made the transition so easily. Solid addition to this board.

And you look like my man Don Cheadle.

I believe the SEC offered A&M.

Fine. The Blues Brothers are off the table.

Matt Moore gets his first career complete game and shutout. 3-0 win for the Rays, Boston held to two singles.

Pedroia just got paid. From mlbtraderumors:

"The Red Sox and Dustin Pedroia have agreed in principle on an extension worth approximately $100MM over seven years, tweets Rob Bradford of WEEI.com. The new contract is set to start in the 2015 season and run through 2021 and also includes full no-trade protection (link). "

What a STUPID contract for a guy who turns 30 in 3 weeks
LeonardSkinner
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Meh, whatever. Strikes me as Boston kinda sorta doing for Pedroia what New York did for Jeter.
corleoneAg99

Yeah...stupid is what Houston gave Carlos Lee.

This was locking up the face of the franchise.

I've never defended the signing of Carlos Lee. Matter of fact do the search and you'll find out I was one of the biggest haters of the signing. Regardless of the astros short falls, You don't "lock" up a 30 year old player for that kind of money. One would think GMs would learn from the lengthy disastrous contracts given to aging players in the last decade.

Would you say Pedroia is comparable to Biggio?

If so, you know where I'm going right?
Mr.Bond
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I would not today give Biggio 100 plus million guaranteed after the age of 30. Biggio was also a freak that played way longer than expected. Biggio wasn't the same player at 30-35 as he was 25-30, he also benefited frim a very hitter friendly park with the crawford boxes.
corleoneAg99

Ok well I guess you're consistent.

I think it's a good deal for Boston. Pedroia projects to play well into his 30's well.

Just like Biggio did.
Mr.Bond

I loved Biggio as a fan. My favorite player but around 33-34 he started declining fast. Which is right in the middle of pedroias contract. I think resigning him was smart. However I wouldn't have gone more than 5 years

Perfect. He'll retire in Beantown!

great contract for both sides. you don't let a potential HOF player and current/future face of your franchise walk from your team

He wasn't walking anywhere until 2015. A 5 year deal would have been a much better fit for Boston IMO
Say Chowdah

You are assuming that he'd agree to a 5 year deal. You don't think any other team would pony up a 7 year for Pedroia? This guarantees (virtually) that he retires in Boston.

The Sox had a long string of having their stars leave before their last contract. The fans have been pissed at that trend. It appears that mgmt may have been listening. V-tek, lowell, Ortiz and now Pedey.

2001 - 118 runs, 180 hits, 838 OPS. Age 36.

2004 - 100 runs, 178 hits, 806 OPS. Age 39

2005 - 94hits, 156 hits, 792 OPS. Age 40

Biggio's final two years were tough but he was very productive all the way, and including, to age 40.

And how pissed would Astros fans have been if Biggio had played his last games in another uniform?

Its a business too. Keeping your customers happy is important.
Mr.Bond
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Biggio almost left in the mid 90's he actually had a contract in hand from Colorado. That being said he played for peanuts in his 30's compared to DP
