That article also mentions that the 3rd round pick Rodgers has signed as well. So much for him wanting more money that was relayed on page 8...

apparently Appel did not sign with the Pirates. The only first round pick that did not.

and only a handful of players taken in the first 10 rounds did not sign

The Pirates offered him every cent they could without forfeiting a pick and he turned it down. Looking forward to him slipping in the draft next year and signing for half of what he was offered this year.

The Pirates could've had a sick stable of arms with Cole, Taillon and Appel in the system.
