Do they really need a (injury prone) closer? Walden was pretty good last year.

I dont think Trumbo's going anywhere for awhile

Whether you believe it to be desperation or not (personally I see it more as an owner willing to make a run with the big boys rather than desperation), I like the $120-$130 million payroll Angels in my division a lot more than the $170 million payroll.

FYI, The SF paper shot this down last week.

Trumbo should be cleared to resume baseball activities next week. He's cheap and under club control for a few years yet.

At 6'4, you have to wonder if he can play 3rd. He strikes out too much and his OBP was a hair under .300 in is rookie season, so he needs to work on his plate discipline big time.

Ultimately, there are two big (connected) questions for the Angels, who need bats badly. First, can Morales recover fully and be an everyday DH at something close to his old production? Second, can Trumbo make the transition to 3rd?

If the feeling is that Morales can't, then he's gone. If Trumbo can't reliably play 3rd, do they keep him around to DH next year?

Probably not, but the team seems to be very high on his potential.
