Definitely sub-optimal production by the bench.

The 4 guard lineup is stupid for a lot of reasons, but what's pissed me off the most is that Vassell has become a complete afterthought in the offense. We are at our best when he is hot since he can score from all 3 levels, and he's getting almost no chances to get in a rhythm. I would rather Juju start over him if we are insistent on this 3 PG thing, which also unlocks Julian bc his whole career he's been better with the starters than with the reserves. Dev off the bench would give him the room to heat up a little more.

Reed has to be on the court when Wemby is off. I know it was the Mavs, but the difference was night and day between him and Kornet. That leaves potential for Wemby-Kornet or Reed-Kornet combos, too. You also have to have either Harper or Fox on the floor with the 'second team'. Shorten up rotations. Don't make huge substitutions if you don't have to.
I'm not expert by any means, but I think these are the things we should be more focused on. Especially if we're going to force this three guard lineup to start.

I think Spurs fans in general are putting the cart before the horse with Reed. He has a lot going for him, but rookies drafted outside the top 25 basically never are impact players as rookies on championship teams. Reed is probably more capable than Kornet defending outside 10' and may be a better rebounder, but he is also going to make rookie mistakes and probably won't be as good of an interior defender. His size/strength advantage will be useful in a lot of matchups, but I wouldn't count on him as a core rotation member just yet.

I'm not looking for Reed to be an impact player. I'm looking for him to be better than Kornet, which was absolutely the case the other night. Kornet was SLOW on every rotation and closeout, couldn't grab a rebound to save his life, and wasn't any threat to score.
Obviously it's early and he's had one game off the bench. This is also definitely more about Kornet getting old and slow and Reed being young and more athletic. Rookie mistakes will happen, but all we need from him is to be the beast he is on the boards and athletic enough on defense to not be an open basket constantly.

It's just a dumb rotation. I'm all for experiments early in the season but to roll it out right out of the gate and get 10% of last year's total losses in 2 games is an odd decision when you can run the exact same starters out that made it to the finals. A few minutes here and there would have been a much smarter approach.
I also think it's limited even if successful. We likely need to overcome the Thunder and the Knicks to win it all. They bullied us with their size and wore us out with their bench depth. We aren't going to run Hart, Town and OG off the floors with this lineup.
At best it might be a scoring juggernaut against smaller teams, but it will have legitimate defensive and rebounding issues that make it unviable for long stretches against the elite competition. Secondarily it significantly weakens our bench as we have seen to start the year.
