The more I watch this team the more I value a huge motor in a player. Morez has that. Dailyn Swain has that. They may not have all the skills I want, but you can't teach DeAndre Ayton to be relentless. You can teach Kawhi (or Castle or Harper) how to shoot.

We never could teach Sochan to shoot…

Johnson made a nice jump from 0 3s as a fish to 34% this year (low volume, less than 1 a game). He also jumped from 62% to 78% at the free throw line. I haven't watched enough of him to see if his shot looks wonky or anything, but that improvement does suggest he has more room to grow as a shooter.

Some guys will just never develop. Just the way it is. There are hustle guys like Sochan that just never take the leap. He's essentially the exact same player today as he was at Baylor.

But I am going to bet on the guy with the big motor every time to develop over the guys that have skill, but aren't necessarily showing they have that dog in them. Like DNPeterson this year. Or Ben Simmons. So much skill, but where's the headspace?

I kind of wish we'd hung on to Sochan just in case we end up against Boston in the finals. I don't think we have the size to defend Brown and Tatum. He could have been our version of Tristan Thompson who suddenly becomes very valuable with the exact right matchup.

I think we did him a solid by releasing him though so he could try and find a better situation to showcase himself prior to free agency.

But instead of signing somewhere he could show out, he signed with the Knicks, who play him even less than we do. He'd probably start for the Bulls.

He's gonna be out of the league in two years. He cares more about Instagram hotties than he does working in his game. Only thing he'd be good for against the Celtics would be going 1-15 while they leave him open to double Wemby and Castle.

There is still a chance that the Hawks fall back into the play-in.
With 2-3 games left, they are in 5th: 1/2 game ahead of Tor, a game ahead of Orlando and 1 1/2 games ahead of Philly.
They play Cleveland and Miami. Obviously they need to lose both.
I guess it comes down to who is still playing hard in that last game.

Carter Bryant is the guy I am most excited about from the rookies we have. His ceiling is ridiculous
No matter what!
Epstein didn't do, you know, the thing...

And the nice thing is, I can see a guy like him having a developmental curve where they aren't at that superstar/1A talent level yet by the time they need to get that next contract/extension so he becomes a huge value for you because of the smaller cap space hit.

Essential for when it comes time to pay the piper on Wemby/Castle.

I'm equally excited about both the Rookies. It bodes well for continued success for several years.

I'll keep pounding the rock. Harper will be the best point in the league in two years.

But I'm with you on Carter. Our defense has slipped since Barnes returned. It stiffens when Bryant is in there, then goes back to leaky with HB in there. Maddening.

I think Barnes comes back on a team friendly deal with the understanding that his role will continue to decrease. I would also like to bring in Dean Wade and honestly wouldn't mind Wade taking Barnes minutes.

I'd bring back Jordan McLovin as 3/4th string PG. He's solid in that role.

Draft Morez Johnson or Dailyn Swain.

Wemby/Kornet/ Vet FA/2nd rounder
Bryant/Wade/Morez or Swain
Vassell/Julian/Barnes
Castle/Keldon/2nd rounder
Fox/Harper/Jordan

On the draft, I would rather have Johnson for 2 reasons.
1) He's big enough to backup both 4 and 5. He gives more flexibility.
2) Swain isn't really PF, which is where we are now. We already have CB in that role.

I also wonder if the Spurs might consider trading up to get Yaxel if he falls a little. It might not take much and their picks are going to be pretty low for a few years.
Just curious.

Yaxel would be a dream grab. Hope we can pull that off somehow.

What needs to happen for ATL to fall back to play-in spot, obviously they need to lose final 2 games but would guess we are rooting for Toronto, Orlando and Philly as well?

Yeah I would love to see Orlando and Toronto pass them for five and six.

Then the 7/8 matchup is Philly who should be able to dominate Atlanta if both teams are healthy.

Then Atlanta would play Charlotte for the 8th seed and I think Charlotte can beat Atlanta.

Kind of wishing we would have tanked a game against the 76ers to put them in better position to catch the Hawks. Would have made for good comedy as we do some 4D tanking to get them in the play in.

There's zero chance we trade up for Yaxel. Cost too much to get a guy that's already 24 and might be Obi Toppin.

I agree that Morez is the better pick, but I think that Swain wouldn't be far behind. Swain has more skills as a player. I think Swain projects better as a shooter.

If Morez is there, he's my first pick after Yaxel. Then Swain then Lopez.

Would love Chinyelu, Veesaar, or Tarris Reed in the 2nd round with the Jazz pick.

76ers are playing Houston, Indiana then Milwaukee.

When I had to have my appendix out, they cut through my abs and it really sucked for a week or two. Twisting and turning was awful.

OKC is going to be shooting on Denver's goal to make sure Denver doesn't fall to 4 seed
jteagle

Definitely rooting for Toronto and Orlando. Philly and Charlotte are longshots but you never know who's going to be resting players at the end of the year.

Toronto is up on Miami by 22 in the 4th. If they hold on, they will be tied with the Hawks.

I don't think Embiid is going to be able to play in the play-in tournament. That makes the Hawks path to the playoffs easier.

When I had my appendix out, they had to cut through my abs to get to it and flexing the abs or turning left or right hurt for a couple weeks. Can't imagine playing sports like that.

Nugs need to sit everyone too and trot out a g league lineup.

I'll just be over here waiting for that 250k fine against OKC like the Spurs got hit with back in the day.

The Nuggets still need to win one more to stay ahead of the Lakers for the 3 seed.

There are alot of fans saying that Carter Bryant can't play the 4 but I think he has shown that he can defend bigger players even as a rookie. Give him playoff experience and a full off-season in the weight room and I think he can be a starter next year.

He's 6'6.5" and 215-220lbs. He isn't ideal as a PF, but teams are playing so many big wings at PF now that it doesn't matter as much against most teams. I have no problem with him guarding Chet or Jabari or PJ Washington, or Tobias Harris, etc. It hurts you when you are matching up with bigger, stronger guys like KAT or Julius Randle.

I think he will be, but we will probably draft a guy like Morez Johnson that matches up better against bigger PFs.

Unless Embid has laparoscopic surgery instead which has a much faster recovery timeline.

I had laparoscopic surgery. They have three incision points and had to cut through the abs.

I agree that a bigger body would be nice to have but I think Carter can more than hold his own until we get that player or until the one we get develops.
