Is Bryant coming along enough that he takes Barnes minutes in the playoffs?

I think Barnes is still a 15-20mpg guy and more if he is hot. But Carter is good enough to play. We had him at center against Brook Lopez some tonight, he was guarding Dunn bringing the ball up the court, and he was manning up against Kawhi.

Next year, Carter is going to be an absolute monster. This year I think he is still mostly ~15mpg but will have games you have to play him more, especially when you need stops. He is one of the most versatile defenders in the league. Being able to go Castle, Vassell, Julius, Bryant, Wemby and still have shooting with 5 plus defenders is pretty amazing.

I don't know, Barnes' role might have disappeared.

Champagnie is a better shooter and defender. And while I still believe Barnes is a better shooter than Bryant, the gap isn't as big as it was at the beginning of the year and Bryant is far and away a better defender. So good in fact that he can be a game changer. I think we're going to want him guarding SGA, Luka, ANT, etc when it matters.

There is probably a good argument about having a veteran on the court during the playoffs, but IMO defense is immune to playoff nerves.

Barnes is still a smart player and our 3rd best shooter this year. In Feb, he shot 47/42 and was +18 per 100 possessions.

At 38%, he's just a hair under Julian and Devin, but both Julian and Devin are really streaky (as are Wemby and Keldon.) We don't really have the shooters to bench our 3rd best.

I think we all agree JuJu deserves more minutes and Bryant deserves some, but I don't think Bryant is completely there yet, despite the amazing plays and motor he has.

What is so hilarious is that 100% of media would be killing any player for caring so much about a regular season game. But Victor is so real you just cant hate. Its impossible because you know he's going to be himself. The last player to rock the league with his passion was Magic Johnson. He was exactly like this and it took a while for everyone to realize it wasn't an act.

It'll be interesting to see how Mitch handles playoff rotations and how he wants to try and dictate certain aspects of the other team's strategy. Stars don't like being harassed all game long and between Castle and Bryant we can put 48 minutes of pressure on Durant, SGA, ANT, Booker which has value in a long series.

I agree that Barnes' shooting still has value, but I also think teams in the playoffs will try and target him on defense and force him to switch onto their stars in the PnR. He's an ok defender but I'm sure OKC would prefer SGA attack him rather than Steph or Bryant.

In the past few years we've seen that teams are merciless in the playoffs at targeting the weakest defender on the court and I think for us that will be Barnes. This isn't really a thing in the regular season because most teams don't have the bandwidth to draw up extensive game plans on a nightly basis.
