Trade FVV and Smith let Sheppard take FVV minutes.
Smith will still have a lot of value. FVV, I am not as sure about. He is a win-now kind of player, but so many teams that are in win-now mode don't need him. The only thing he could be is a player picked up to dump off bad salary, but I think teams are much less willing to take on bad salary going forward.

Most 2nd apron teams couldn't feasibly trade for FVV due to the new trade rules.

I think Orlando could use FVV and he would fit well on that team, but they don't really have good contracts to trade and their recently extended players can't be traded just like Green and Sengun can't be traded.

If Milwaukee can get their picks back and want to tank, they could do a Dame for FVV trade. Dame would be an upgrade offensively, but would Houston want his next two years of contract (~2y112MM after this season)?

The big idea this summer was getting the PHX picks to trade for Booker or Durant when Phoenix fell apart, but Durant is hurt and Phoenix has played great so far. Despite being a 2nd apron team, PHX could trade Durant or Booker for FVV+picks.

If Houston wanted LaVine, I bet Chicago would do LaVine + 1st for FVV, but then you have the LaVine+Green logjam at SG. LaVine has 2y95M left after this season. Kind of like Dame, adds a high level scorer, but kills your cap the next two years.

If you really wanted someone on the Nets, you could work something out with them and Ben Simmons ending contract, but I don't really like anyone there that much. I would rather have Tari Eason than Cam Johnson and I think Cam Thomas is a bad team shot chucker.

Wizards could do Kuzma+Brogdon, but I think they think Kuz has more value than he does and I wouldn't add anything for them. They also are tanking, so no real reason to have FVV.

Timberwolves could definitely use him, but they can't actually trade for him due to 2nd apron rules.

Maybe if injuries strike, a team might want FVV for a rental, but I don't think the trade market would be super hot because the 40M+ contracts are hard to trade, especially with so many of the contending teams either being locked by trade rules, hard caps, or don't have the contracts to move.

Hard to speculate on Jabari, because I think with him being on a rookie contract and still having a lot of promise, there is still a lot of value, and any team could make him fit in a trade pretty easily because of the rookie scale deal. If teams didn't use their exception, he could fit into that as well, because you can now trade players into an exception.

That was a really ugly win
Pistons go 1 for 4 (1 intentional miss) from the free throw line in the last 6 seconds.

Jabari Smith rapidly regressing into Buck Johnson 2.0.

I knew smith wasn't the guy when we beat him in the SEC tournament.
He was clearly on the better team and the best player on the floor. When the team hit adversity and needed him to take over, he folded like a chair.
They need to go ahead and put Amen in the starting lineup. Dude is a powder keg of energy

The Rockets' 85-'91 first round draft pick run is one one of the worst things the world has ever seen.

'85: #19 Steve Harris, 207 career games, sadly died young of colon cancer at age 52
'86: #20 Buck Johnson, 9.1 points per game career average
'87: no first round picks
'88: #16 Derrick Chievous, 154 career games, 7.1 points per game career average
'89: No draft picks at all
'90: #12 Alec Kessler, traded to Miami
'91: #20 John Turner, 42 career games, 2.8 points per game

Even worse when you add why there was no 87 and 89 picks.

87 was traded for the last year and a half of a very washed Cedrick Maxwell.

89 was traded for Purvis Short. That pick became Dana Barros and Shawn Kemp was picked one after.

To be fair, drafting hasn't been our strongpoint since then either.

97 Roderick Rhodes
98 Michael Dickerson
Bryce Drew
Mirsad Turkcan
01 Traded the Richard Jefferson and Jason Collins for Eddie Griffin
Patrick Patterson
Nikola Mirotic
Royce White
Terrence Jones
Sam Dekker

Relatively recently that has a lot to do with Morey not valuing picks while we were trying to surround Harden with the right person to win a championship.

Well the obvious question tonight is how bad can the Wizards possibly be that the Rockets are a 12 5 point favorite?
Guitarsoup

They have only beaten Atlanta and can't shoot or rebound.

Sarr is proving to be a decent rim in protector, Bub Carrington has played better than expected and Bilal looks like he will be a solid player. But Washington is pretty bad overall, and that's to be expected for any team that relies on Poole and Kuz as their two best players.

Even Reed got some quality minutes and shot 3-5/1-1 for 7 points.

Tonight's box score reflects my fondest wish for these Rockets.

Smith ineffective early, put on the bench and kept there.

Amen and Tari an absolute monstrosity off the bench. 14 of 23 shooting, 21 rebounds (8 offensive, Amen had 6), 4 assists, 3 steals, 3 blocks, 36 points, and only 2 turnovers.

Granted it's the Clippers, who I've only heard of 3 of their players, and one of those only because of Fantasy Basketball, but still.

3 game win streak, up to 8-4, the current #5 seed in the West, way way early, but a nice win.

Kudos to the Pistons for following up their choke job vs. the Rockets by giving up 59 points. 14 rebounds, ands 7 assists to the Greek Freak tonight. Maybe mix in a double team every once in a while.

Too soft to take advantage of his height on offense. He's limited to only shooting 3s but he sucks at that, too.

I don't really know what he's good at. Only good thing is that he's 21.

He isn't good at anything. We need to find a taker for him yesterday. Complete liability on the court and is holding this group back.

Yes, but the Thompson/Eason line is a thing to behold. Their length and athleticism is a problem for other teams.

I'm out on Jabari unfortunately. Seems like a good kid and I'll root for him but it seems like he just doesn't have it. It might be all between the years.

The good news is Amen and Tari are incredible. They are so incredibly fun to watch.

I love it. And Harden HATED it when the Bash Brothers came in. They were stuffing him on ball and off ball. There were a couple of times where either on of them would've gotten the block. Who needs a defined "rim protector" when those two are are roaming the court? Consider me impressed.
