AND the fact is neither Trae nor DJ is a good fit with the way this roster is coming together.

To be fair, I don't think we know how the roster is coming together. That configuration changed when we got Wemby. So this is the first offseason to see what that direction looks like.

Trae Young using a pic of him in a Spurs jersey to say Happy Mother's Day immediately after the draft lottery?
What, honestly, do the Spurs give up for Young?

I honestly don't think that's an option any more in the eyes of the hawks now that they can get Sarr. For them, it's a matter of trading murray and seeing what salary they can attach to him.

The only other thing they might do is offer the #1 for an all star but I don't see that happening.

Edit: I think the spurs lost a lot of leverage to make an SA/ATL deal, whatever that may have looked like. I think it will be a standoff. Atlanta will be confident they can make a contender. We will let them try.
This is right. They have Sarr, and that is the player you need at center next to Trae.

Hawks have massive salary cap issues with a bunch of contracts I wouldn't want, but Trae isn't forcing his way out now that he can see if Sarr+Jalen+Trae works.

I think my theoretical trade of Capela+Murray for Ingram+Nance works for both teams.

I don't believe in DeJounte as the PG for this Spurs team, but I bet the Hawks would listen to offers there, especially for the cap space of Graham. So if you wanted to offer #8 and Graham for Murray, you could financially do the deal. Murray did sign a team friendly 18% cap deal.

And I think both LAL and NOL beat that offer by alot. NOLA with Ingram + whatever draft compensation; LA with 2-3 1sts and Austin Reeves that would help ATL win now. So all to get back to the same place, pass on a hawks deal for me.

I don't think NOLA adds draft compensation and I think Ingram could be the better player. Atlanta may not want Ingram, because he believes he is worth the 4y200M max, and he is maybe worth a Vassel contract.

I don't think LA gives multiple picks plus Reaves for DJM.

I think Nola could if they have to take on salary. If Trae is off the table, LA might not have a choice with DLo's departure.

I think LA just brings back DLo. Not sure who else is going to give him a contract. Detroit? Orlando? Utah? I just don't see a fit for him unless there is a S&T.

Atlanta's big salary problem is paying $40m/year for Hunter+Bogdan. NOLA is trying to lessen their wing logjam, and they have their own cap issues with Zion+CJ.

But who wants to take on 3y70MM of DeAndre Hunter? All their non-rookie scale players are overpaid.

This has us taking Topic and Dillingham.
Guitarsoup

That's a god-awful draft.

Washington has Kuz, Bilal, and Deni and take Risacher while their only PG is a UFA?

Topic and Dillingham for a team that prioritizes length and defense?

Spurs Cap Situation/ off-season:

Guaranteed: 100.2M for 9 players

* Devin 29.3M
* Keldon 19M
* Collins 16.7M
* Victor 12.8M
* Tre Jones 9.1M
* Sochan: 5.6M
* Branham: 3.2M
* Wesley: 2.6M
* Cissoko: 1.9M

Partially Guaranteed: 2.85M guaranteed, 12.85M total

* Graham: 12.65M slot, 2.85M guaranteed. Becomes fully guaranteed on July 1, but sometimes teams increase the guarantee to push back the fully-guaranteed date

Unguaranteed: 5.5M for 2 players

* Champagnie: 3M
* Bassey: 2.5M

Draft Holds: 15.4M for 2 players

* 4th pick: 9.1M
* 8th pick: 6.3M
* There are no cap holds for the 2nd round players, but they can be signed with an exception or as a two-way player. If they are signed as a two-way they do not count against our 15-player roster maximum.
-----------------------------------------

If we cut Graham: 123.95M in salary plus 1st round pick holds, plus 1.2M for 14th roster spot hold for cutting Graham.

Salary cap is 141M.
That gives us about 16M in cap space, which is just a bit more than the MLE. Cutting Champagnie or Bassey clears their salary minus a cap hold for incomplete roster at the 1.2M vet minimum, so cutting both players would only get you 3.1M in additional cap space.

Free agents:

* Mamu
* Cedi
* Barlow

If we cut Graham, we have four roster positions open and we have four draft picks. I think it is likely that we try to sign one MLE-level player, and trade one or both 2nd rounders for future picks. We could also combine the two picks for a late first if we like a player, to help a team with cap issues get off the guaranteed salary. But it is likely we see some sort of trade, but it will likely be minor.

Trae is not a philosophical fit. And if they were going to add a guy who is an electric small guard with huge defensive questions then they'd just draft Dillingham.

Murray is theoretically better. But he was a ball stopping 1on1 player in SA. That's 100% against where this team is going. This season they were 2nd in the league in assists per game, 1st in assist rate. They also broke the all time record for 20+ assists in a row. It's up to 140 or 150 now. They broke the record set by the Showtime Lakers.

I'd rather try and make a move for Giddey than DJM. He doesn't really fit in OKC next to SGA and Williams but I'm not sure what the asking price would be.

He's kind of interesting, and I think his value is in the tank. I just wonder if his peak is what we see now - a negative shooting PnR ballhandler/cutter.

I don't want anything to do with okc players simply because I think Presti would take Wright to the cleaners.

The arguments against Topic are similar to Giddey. Not great off ball, can't shoot. I think Giddey is a better defender, but he's not great.

Agree we don't want to deal with Presti, and Presti probably prefers players to picks anyways.

I will say that Topic is 3 years younger than Giddey and is already a better FT shooter. But yea, I think they are a very similar player type.

After the Primo stuff, I don't think the Spurs would want to take a risk on Giddey either, even if his case was settled/dismissed.

Think the Spurs would be open to trading down if the player they want isn't in danger of getting picked? Maybe try to pick up a player or pick in the process?

I think the spurs will make at least one trade.

How, who and why, I have no clue

If Castle is gone, I take him at 8

6'3 wingspan and 163lbs is tiny.

Absolute take at 35

Speaking of darkhorses. Not sure if Ajay Mitchell from UCSB has been mentioned but I think he'd be a great 2nd round choice.

Yeah. So a lot shorter than expected, but weighs the same as Ron Holland who was 4" taller.

If Clingan is there at 8 I take him.

Apparently these are incorrect and are actually Devin Carters measurements.
