Using that last bit of cap space I guess.

Spurs got a 2nd round pick and Cameron Payne, another backup point guard. We now have 4 backup point guards.

In the summer of 2021, Victor Wembanyama spent just 10 days with Holger Geschwindner, the mentor of Dirk Nowitzki in Wurzburg, Germany. Holger had just one thing to say about him: "Victor doesn't need any damn coach."

In the summer of 2021, Bouna Ndiaye decided to send Wembanyama to the basketball academy of Holger Geschwindner, the mentor of Dirk Nowitzki. Geschwindner sees basketball as an art form, and it was all but written for Victor to learn new things from another artist. Wembanyama's eyes light up while talking about his 10-day stay in Wurzburg, Germany.

"At first, I thought I didn't spend enough time with him to gain anything, but after a few days, I started thinking about it and I realized that it's not about the moves he taught me. The way he shows it is really weird, but it's not about doing exactly what he tells me, it's more about gaining what you can gain from the philosophy of why he shoots like that, why his knees are like that, why his arms are on the side instead of being in the middle. It's more about the whole body philosophy of how to shoot the ball, it's more mental than anything, it's about balance," Victor recalls.

Master Holger "Yoda" Geschwindner had found the perfect padawan in Victora big Star Wars aficionado himselfhumble enough to listen and understand. Impressed, the German coach called Ndiaye and just had one thing to say: "Victor doesn't need any damn coach."

Holger also told his agent to stop the weightlifting and let Victor's body mature in time. Victor was 17 and still growing.

So I don't know if something else is necessarily coming, but the Spurs very clearly want flexibility to make moves this year.

Reggie Bullock is a solid player that a playoff team may want at the deadline, similar to JRich.
Same with DougMcD if a team needs a pure shooter/good team guy.

With Bullock and Doug, we have a 10.5mm and a 13.75mm contract that are ending and easy to move.

Graham has a 12.1mm contract with just ~2mm guaranteed past this year.

With Birch, Payne, and Osman, we have between 6.5mm-7mm each in ending contracts.

Basically, we can get involved in absolutely any trade in the league to help make things work, if we want to do so.

Or we can stand pat and let all the money fall off next year.

Next summer:

Keldon: 19mm
Wemby: 12,8mm
Tre Jones: 10.4mm
Sochan: 5.6mm
Branham: 3.2mm
Wesley: 2.6mm
Graham: 2.8mm guaranteed of 12.6mm

Cap Holds:
Vassell: 17.7mm
Collins: 14.6mm

Unguaranteed:

Julian ChanpagniePapi: 3mm
Bassey: 2.6mm

That's 88.7 in guaranteed contracts plus the cap holds of Vassell/Collins.

Salary cap expected to be 142mm. So 50mm, give or take, but would go down with the cap holds of first round picks. Realistically, it is ~40mm in cap space by keeping JC and Bassey.

I saw Wolff's comments and he sounds bitter, maybe still rubbing his cornhole from the Marlins' bit from 10 years ago or whatever.

Re: Cam Payne etc... yeah you guys summed it up pretty good. Almost feels like the Spurs are primed to jump in whatever direction they need pending Wemby's grasp of the NBA. If we start out 15-3 shhts gonna start popping off.

I wouldn't include Collins or Vassell, because both are clearly in our long term plans.

13.75, Douggie
10.5 Bullock
12.1 - Graham (only 2.8mm is guaranteed for next year, so essentially 10mm gets wiped off. No way we keep him)
7 Birch
6.7 Osman
6.5 Payne
3 - Champagnie (unguaranteed after this season)
2.6 - Bassey (unguaranteed after this season)
2 - Mamu
1.9 - Lamar Stevens (400k guaranteed for this season on July 17th)

Also, Primo's 4.3mm dead cap gets wiped off. Can't trade that, obviously, but helps for next summer.

That's 66mm in contracts that only count for 2.8mm next year (Graham's partially guaranteed contract, that can be spread over 3 years if stretched)

The really nice thing is it is spread out so nicely. If we wanted to move multiple guys, we can easily do that, and if we wanted to take back a massive contract or two, we could also do that.

Just an incredibly great place to be in, financially.

FWIW, the guys we just traded for can't be traded again for two months ( so between Sept 6th and Sept 12th) and we don't have to pare down the roster until mid to late october.

We have 18 plus two ways (SirJabroni and Barlow) and not sure what the deal is with Sidy Cissoko.

We often sign guys late that other teams cast off (Barlow, Champagnie, Jock Landale, Bassey, Eubanks, KBD, etc)

I'm calling it now: this kid is going to be our Draymond. 6'8", has a little "thickness" to handle bigger players and has the frame to fill out even more. But still has some great lateral quickness for smaller wings. Will probably be able to guard 2-5 when all is said and done, plus is showing some great playmaking ability on the offensive side of the floor, and his shot looks really solid.

"Le Petite Draymond"?
Guitarsoup

And his shot looks better than Draymond's. He could definitely be a better all-around player. If he becomes 80% of the defensive player Draymond is, we hit a grand slam

Lamar Stevens getting cut today.

Hope he finds a spot, seems like a good guy.

This is our chance to get off of that last couple million of Grahams guaranteed money and clear up a PG room that no longer had a defined role for him. Getting Wemby a fellow Frenchman who is tall and can space the floor is just icing on the cake.

Since NY has Quickley and Brunson, don't know that they would care at all about Graham. If they wanted to move EF for Graham and Birch, sure. Don't know that it does much for either team other than rearrange salaries.

NYK takes on like 200k more in salary this year, and the 2.8mm in guaranteed salary for Graham next year.

We can't trade Osman, Payne, or Bullock for a couple months, and I would imagine we prefer to keep those three for now.

The suggested trades I've seen almost all have NYK sending out a future 1st with EF. Several include McBuckets going out which I wouldn't do. But a Graham, Birch and a 2nd for EF and a 1st I could be on board with

I think it's highly unlikely NYC would include a 1st as Fournier is essentially an expiring as there is a team option for '25. If it is a 1st it would be heavily protected. NYC is likely saving their firsts to make a run at Embiid as well.

I'm not so sure, I think New York has some firsts that are lotto or top 20 protected and they might offload one of those to get off Fournier and replace him with Doug or one of our other vets.

There is no reason for NYK to send out a 1st there. They don't improve their team. That's just SpursTalk guys jerking themselves off.

NYK gets two guys that won't play for them that costs them a total of $3mm more than 1 guy that doesn't play for them. Why would they add a 1st? They don't improve their team, they don't unload salary, they don't do anything positive, other than add an old French guy to a team with a young French guy.

Kind of a no-brainer IMO. Barlow's length and defensive flexibility is a great fit and he shows signs of developing enough of an offensive game to be able to play him.
