Just heard on the radio that Oladipo can be a restricted FA the end of this season. That's not good.
Why? Hou basically can keep him if they want.
obviously I am not an expert on all of this, but I think we just have right of first refusal, meaning it could be pretty pricy.
This is correct. Can match any offer he receives. More importantly, they can trade Oladipo as an expiring asset. Not sure if they have to wait to flip him or not.

Glad James is gone. Typical entitled, NBA player who hasn't won ***** Plays like Tarzan in the regular season - becomes Jane in the post-season. Good riddance.

Based on the trade details we have right now, the Rockets did really really well. A sh*t ton of picks and a very good player in Oladipo. The Rockets weren't ever going to be a "contender" after this trade but they won't be a complete joke either. The key here is going to be in the front office really hitting on those picks. There realistically won't be a star in any of those late firsts but there will undoubtedly be important role players and development pieces. Now they have a season to work something out with Oladipo but whether he re-signs or not, I do like the trade for Hou.

Considering the Rockets were hamstrung by Harden wanting out and acting the way he did out the door I really like what Stone was able to get in return.

Mostly did this to educate myself on the new Rockets (allegedly), but thought I'd post it as well.

Victor Oladipo is a 6'4 PG/SG who was the #2 pick in the 2013 draft. He'll be 29 in May and went to Indiana.

Much like John Wall, he has missed significant time with injury the last couple of years, missing 371 straight days between January 23 2019 and January 29 2020 with a ruptured quad tendon.

He played for the Magic 2013-2016, Oklahoma City for 2016-2017, and then the Packers 2018-2021.

His best year was 2017-2018 with Indiana when he averaged 23.1 point, 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.4 steals (led the league). He was voted the league's Most Improved Player that year.

Dante Exum is 25 and skipped college, he's from Australia. He was the #5 pick in the 2014 draft by the Jazz. He's a 6'5" point guard. He's been hurt a lot - ACL tear in this left knee in 2015, shoulder surgery in October 2017, partially torn patella tendon in his right knee in 2019.

Hasn't played any games yet for Cleveland this year so I take it he's hurt again because Cleveland has not depth to keep guys on the bench. He's only played 14, 42, 11, and 24 games in his last four seasons.

Rodions Kurucs, who sounds like a Star wars character, is from Latvia, no word on if he's Latvian Orthodox (Seinfeld fans), and is about to turn 23 years old. He's 6'9 and was drafted by the Nets in the 2nd round with the 40th pick in 2018. He played 63 games with the Nets in 2018-2019 and started 46 of them, averaging 8.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He also hasn't played this year.

I thought I was going to be sad to see Harden go, but honestly, it feels like a cloud has been lifted over the team.

Yeah we'll be mediocre, but holy crap am I excited for this rebuild. What a great platform we now have.

Also, FWIW, I think this Nets team is going to absolutely implode when they get bounced in the playoffs by the Bucks, Celtics, or Heat.

Do I have this about right?

Oladipo - B level star (15-20th best player in the league)
Exum - backup PG level player
Kurucs - early 2nd round pick with NBA film - project

Picks are all unrestricted, so we're betting on the Nets to fall apart.

Not too bad all things considered.

Now the Nets can trade Kyrie Irving to Washington for Westbrook and trade a bag of Doritos to the Clippers for Serge Ibaka and they'll have Westbrook, Harden, Durant, and Ibaka back together!

I think it's an incredible salvage job given Harden's antics.

I also like that we're not hitching our future to Ben Simmons

The way RFA usually works is in favor of the team holding the 'bird rights' (aka the right to match). Other teams will be deterred from offering a contract knowing that all houston has to do is match. The reason it deters other teams is b/c Houston will have usually 2 to 3 days (forget which) to decide. Meanwhile, the FA market is still moving and that offer is will be used as a cap hold against the team that made it (thus tying their hands while other deals get done).

Tucker only has 1 year and he's cheap. We can stay or go.

Gordon needs to be moved. Its going to take something crazy to find a home for him.

That is what I was thinking. We'd probably take someone back who has decent money just a year or two less.

So Kevin Durant either doesn't have the ear of the Nets owner or he's a colossal idiot who hasn't been paying attention to Harden's relationship with Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, and Russell Westbrook over the past several years.

I see your point but would add two things:

1. KD absolutely signed off on this trade
2. KD is MUCH better than Dwight, Russ or CP3

Dipo was 15-20th before he ruptured his quad. No longer. He's a solid player and a good fit in that lineup. Can still create some, can still score.

I think Harden and Kyrie are a terrible fit together, but if they're all motivated and in shape, Durant, Harden and Kyrie are 3 of the best offensive players in the game. They should be able to score on everyone.

Defensively, Deandre Jordan might foul out every game from defending against blow bys.

KD can opt out of his contract in 2022. Those early year picks could end up being more valuable than expected if the Nets implode, which I think is feasible with the Harden/Kyrie attitudes.

Agree on Harden and Kyrie being a terrible fit. It's going to be interesting to watch.
