Honestly, fine by me. I'll take the backbone from management.

Who knows, maybe Silas wins James over and they make it work. If the trade deals suck, I'd say that's our best option.

I'm also wondering if James is the type that expects people to cater to him, as has been the case, or whether he'll actually respect someone more when they stand up to them. Hopefully the latter.

Again, we have no real idea why.

Guessing has to do with mid level exception and freeing them up to do other moves.

When something looks dumb like that based on just the optics, usually much much more complicated stuff going on. NBA contracts/rules are more complicated than any other sport.

It's 100% money related. Yes, the rockets can use the full MLE but they just traded the 16th pick in THIS draft for what is likely a worse 5 years from now.

Also, it's tillman. He's not exactly "killing it" in the decision department.

#16 pick has about a 25% chance of being a role player. Let's not act like that was some major thing given up. Granted this year while not awesome at the top, is fairly deep so who knows.

right but if your defense for moving RoCo is so that you can sign a worse player with the MLE while spending more draft capital doing it, then i think you made a bad move.

Ariza isn't really a bad contract, though. Last year of the contract, 12.8mm.

For Portland last year, he shot 49%/40%/87% and had 11p/5r/2a/1.6s. Still playing at a solid level and a guy that a playoff team would likely want for their rotation. Solid D&3 players that were starters on NBA Champions don't grow on trees.

12.8mm on ariza and 2.6mm on the #16 pick.

So for RoCo, the Rockets got a heavily protected pick sometime in the future from Detroit and a protected pick from Portland. I haven't seen what the Portland protections are just yet.

That's not as bad of a trade as it looks on the surface/within the confines of a tweet.

Contracts and negotiations are supposed to be Stone's speciality, so I'm gonna trust him on it.

I'd think the Rockets would take Simmons and picks alone. I don't think you even want Harris with that horrendous contract.

Wall/Simmons doesn't seem like a great match and you definitely wouldn't want Harris/Simmons/Wall and those 3 contracts.

If the Rockets flipped Harden for Simmons it would be a home run (given having a star that wants out). I would doubt the Sixers take calls on him though.
