Leonard is out under the league's concussion protocol, the Spurs rested players in their last game to be ready for this one.

It does suck though.

Iguodala lost his damn mind

"Iguodala was so frustrated, he blurted out another controversial, racially insensitive comment when asked about what led to this loss.
"We gotta score more than the other team," he told reporters. "Yep, they want dumb n----s, so I'm going to give y'all a dumb n----."
Then asked whether the team issues run deeper than just scoring baskets, Iguodala responded, "What would dumb n----s say? 'Just play harder. Figure it out. Change gonna come.' You know what we used to say. Change gonna come.""

Between he and Draymond Green that team has got some weird dudes

Edit - apparently it was a joke, but still

Thank God for the NCAA Tournament, or else we would be hearing all about it.

I'm no Thunder or Westbrook fan by any means, but what does mark Cuban have against Russell Westbrook?

Last year, he said the Thunder only had one super star player ( Durant) and this year he said that Westbrook isn't in the MVP conversation ( he might be the front runner)

Cuban is just trying to prop Dirk. He says Westbrook can't bring team to 50 wins without a second star, so Westbrook isn't a superstar.
Grapesoda2525

Imagine how bad the thunder would be without Westbrook tho. That's what he should be looking at

The problem is Cuban frames everything around Dirk and enhancing Dirk's legacy.

Sorry Cuban, Dirk leading the 09 or 04 Mavs to 50 wins isn't what made him a star.

Westbrook has the best offensive resume, but one can truly wonder if the numbers would be as gaudy if there was anyone else to consistently share in the scoring.

I'm actually leaning more toward a Westbrook, Harden, Leonard race. I think if the Rockets top 58 wins and Hardens numbers don't change.. and assuming Kawhi doesn't go nuts down the stretch.. he might take this thing.

Spurs are looking at 64ish wins in a year after the GOATPF and soul of the team retired.

Gasol and Parker have missed 10 games [and counting] and TheMarcus is out with a heart problem.

If the Spurs lead the league in wins and Westbrook doesn't lead the Thunder to 50 wins (need 13-3 the rest of the way) I think Kawhi ends up winning in a very close 4-way race.

Spurs/Warriors on pace for 64 wins. Spurs have clinched head to head tie-breaker
Rockets on pace for 56 wins
Cavs on pace for 54 wins
Thunder on pace for 46 wins

Kawhi obviously doesn't have the offensive stats the others (Harden/Russ/LeBron) have, but he does have a much better defensive resume and may win his third-straight DPOY. Bron is having his worse defensive season ever and the Cavs are 22nd in DRTG. Spurs are 1st in DRTG and 2nd in oPPG. Rockets are 16th/24th.

If the rest of the season plays out the way it is going, Kawhi wins it.

He was two rebounds per away from averaging a triple-double last season with Durant on the roster. No need to wonder.

And while putting up 24/10/8/2, he finished 4th in MVP voting last year.

I'd rather see Kawhi continue to keep winning defensive player of the year awards. If Kawhi is the MVP that means Draymond Green probably wins defensive player of the year. I'm sorry, but Draymond has no class and spends more time yelling the refs then playing the damn game. I'd hate to see Draymond get anything that he wants and he really covets that award.

It's not a either/or proposition.i think Dray has worked his way out of it with the way he has acted. Plus if he was going to win it, it would have been last year when the warriors had more impressive defense

Kawhi won it last year because his numbers were amazing on defense. This year his numbers aren't as stellar on defense because he's shouldering more of the offensive load.

Kawhi has less blocks, but more steals than last year.

Kawhi has taken a hit in some of his defensive stats (and advanced stats) because teams have taken the extraordinary step in isolating their best player and removing him from the game and thereby Kawhi from being able to play defense and letting their other players play the Spurs other players 4 on 4. The Bulls notably did this with Jimmy Butler - running Kawhi into the corner and then ignoring Butler on offense completely and Butler didn't move at all. The Bulls were much more effective doing this than when they ran a traditional 5 on 5 offense against the Spurs with Kawhi defending.

Here is an article about Kawhisolation.

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/kawhi-leonard-is-so-great-at-defense-hes-actually-hurting-the-spurs/

The very fact that teams are designing their offense to isolate a defensive player and take him out of a game completely should tell you a lot about who the DPOY is.

The top 5 DPOY guys should be (in no order)

Gobert
Unibrow
Kawhi
Draymond
Giannis

Who knew the Warriors would go to s*** without Durant? They should have lost to the Sixers last night who had the lead for the majority of the game. Normally you could give them a pass, but you still roll out Thompson, Curry, and Green every night

I doubt you'll ever hear complaints from Curry because he's so "cool" and "chill", but KD's arrival seemed to erase alot of his mojo. At the very least, I'm guessing Under Armor isn't happy.

That and the chemistry shifted a little bit, especially on the bench. I mean at one point they were relying on Barnes, Bogut, Ezeli, Speights, Barbosa etc. to play meaningful minutes and now they trot out Matt Barnes
Deluxe

Yep. They basically traded role players, continuity/chemistry and superstar Steph for KD, a lesser version of Steph and some crossed fingers it would work out from a role player/chemistry standpoint. In their defense, it was working pretty well until KD got hurt. I won't be crying any tears for them though :-)
Guitarsoup

They also gave up their height and strength.

Upgraded Harrison Barnes for Durant, who is now hurt.

Downgraded Bogut to Zaza. Lost their strength and defense in the middle. Zaza sucks at D and is not an intimidating presence in the middle.

Downgraded Speights for David West. Speights could bang down low. West can shoot a pretty 18' jumper. Only West is only hitting 42% from 10-23 feet this year. Meanwhile Speights has been pretty important for the Clipps while Griffin was out.

Downgraded Leonadro Barbaro for Patrick McCaw.

Downgraded Festivus for JaVale. Festivus has been injured all year, so I guess that didn't work out too bad for them.

Downgraded Brandon Rush for Damian Jones

Their interior defense going from Draymond-Bogut-Speights-Ezeli to Draymond-Durant-West-JaVale is a HUGE downgrade. And that makes them vulnerable to teams with a strong interior presence - ie Spurs (LMA, Gasol, Dedmon, Lee) and Clipps (Jordan, Griffin, Speights)

With 12 to 13 games left for most teams.

Games remaining vs. teams over .500/remaining (B2B info)

GSW 7/13 (3 sets of B2B remaining, including one with 2nd night against Spurs)
Spurs 8/13 (1 set of 4 in 5 nights)

Rockets 4/12 (locked in at 3)
Jazz 6/12 (Maybe not locked in at 4, but they won't fall below 5 seed)

Floppers 4/12 (3 sets of B2B remain)
Thunder 4/13 (3 sets of B2B remain)
Grizzlies 5/12 (2 sets of B2B remain)

Nuggets 6/13 (2 sets of B2B)
Blazers 4/13 (2 sets of B2B)

2 games separate Warriors/Spurs, with Spurs having tiebreaker
Rockets and Jazz are pretty much locked up in their spots
1 game separates Clippers, Thunder & Grizzlies.

Denver up 1 on Portland & 3 on Dallas.

The Warriors end to March will be interesting with games against the Rockets, Spurs, Grizzlies, Rockets and Wizards. The Warriors against these 4 teams are a combined 2-6.
