Pop wanted to keep Hill. Hill was one of Pop's favorite players and Pop had to be talked into it by RC and the rest of the front office.

Solid rim protector, used to rotate fairly well, never been great defending the pick and roll. I think as the season progresses he'll get better, but he definitely won't be Timmy.

Spurs first target in that draft wasn't Kawhi. It was Klay Thompson. Pop had him work out twice privately for the Spurs.

The Klay trade was going to be Parker and Jefferson for #5 (toronto) or #7 (suckramento), for the right to take Klay Thompson.

So we would have gone forward with Klay+Hill+Manu backcourt and never had Kawhi.

We lucked out.
