That means Anderson is our backup center? Puke.
My question is why Dantoni is so against using Trez for those 16 minutes that Capela needs rest. I understand he hasn't been playing meaningful minutes so far in the playoffs but he is a capable defender/rebounder. He isn't the scoring threat that Capela is, but if Nene was only averaging 6 points a game you don't need much to replace that production, couple of put-backs maybe.
Not to mention Trez still gives you the lob option on the pick-and-roll which was very effective in game 1.

Another question I have is with a starting lineup of Bev-Gordon-Harden-Ariza-Capela who is truly in the 4/5? Ariza has to guard Kawhi, so that puts James on Gasol and Capela on Aldridge. If your Pop just keep lobbing it down to Pau on the block.

Harden actually does a decent job defending one on one on the block. His biggest defensive liabilities are off ball and help defense. Gasol will have a huge height adv, but won't necessarily push Harden around. The thing to worry about is James getting called floor cheap fouls since he won't get any respect from the refs on defense, especially in San Antonio

Works both ways. When we get SA's bigs spread out and guarding a three point shooter, good things happen for the Rockets. I do cringe at the thought of Harden guarding a big, though.

This worries me. Sometimes the fouls are warranted though. He likes to go for the strip a lot when a big is backing him down.

How many points did Aldridge score when Harden was guarding him in the 2nd half?

Not sure on that. I think Anderson was on Aldridge more, but once Ryan drew the charge Pop took Aldridge out.

That charge was such a makeup call it was hilarious

rebounding is my biggest worry. Nene was the only player on the rockets who can actively contest on the boards. The rest of the entire team is weak AF when it comes to contesting for rebounds against gasol/aldridge/random 7 foot white guy the spurs seem to find at HEB

I'm not saying Nene is a better player than Parker.... I'm saying his injury impacts the Rockets in a negative way more than Parker's injury negatively impacts the Spurs.

Without Nene, it basically guarantees that Ariza and Harden will be playing defense against Aldridge or Gasol when they are both in the lineup.

Huge advantage to the Spurs.

Parker is on the decline of his career, here was an average game for him this year :

25 minutes
10 points
4/9 field goals
0.4/1.1 3P FG (33%)
1.8 Rebounds
4.5 Assists
1.4 Turnovers

On top of that, he's a liability on defense, especially against the Rockets.

Looking at some stats - Simmons has taken about 10 minutes from Parker, Mills has taken 8. The rest is hard to tell as it's split up. Dejounte Murray stepped into the starting lineup, but he plays almost no important minutes. He plays the first four or 5 minutes, and then intermittently until the game gets out of hand.

Jonathon Simmons the last two games
19 minutes
12 points
4.5/10 field goals
1.5/3.5 3P FG (43%)
5 Rebounds
1 Assist
2.5 Turnovers

Patty Mills last two games
29 minutes
12.5 points
4/10.5 field goals
2/7.5 3P FG (27%)
3.5 Rebounds
3.5 Assists
2 Turnovers

Danny Green has also stepped up in the last two games and shot 50% from 3P, when he shot 30% against the Grizzlies.

Simmons is far more athletic than Parker, and a better defender against the length of the Rockets. I'm sorry, but I don't think it's crazy considering the predicament it puts the Rockets in with their frontcourt and Spurs are covering for Paker pretty easily with their backup PG and a swing player who is playing some ball right now.

It's funny you look at Parker's regular season stats, but very small samples of Simmons and Mills.

In the playoffs, Parker was the 2nd leading scorer for the Spurs and was crucial to the Spurs success. Spurs were 5-1 in the playoffs when Parker scored 15+ points. Winless when he scored less than 15.

He was also hitting 58% of his threes, 56% of his FGs and 100% of his FTs.

It's just not reasonable to say that a 15mpg backup post that was giving you about 6 & 3 against the Spurs was more important than the Spurs starting PG, #2 scorer and best shooter in the playoffs.

I realize you have matchup problems without Nene but it also means the Spurs are going to have to run a 20 year old rookie point guard against Bev - one of the best defensive PGs in the nation. Plus the Spurs have to replace about 60% more minutes than the Rockets in the rotation.

Well he scored 0 points in game 3 and Spurs faired pretty well. I'd say Pop has just done a great job adjusting

Nene only played 2 minutes in game 4 and the Rockets won by 21 with the big point differential coming in the second half that Nene didn't play. Maybe Nene was holding them back.

You criticized his argument for using non uniform sample sizes and then you did the same thing.

In my opinion, Nene is a bigger loss than Parker for the simple reason that the spurs have coach Pop. He is one of the greatest head coaches of all time and a master of patching together teams. The spurs could miss any player not named Leonard and Pop would keep that boat sailing just fine. In contrast, the Rockets will really struggle without Nene. It didn't play out that way yesterday, but I don't think we can sustain that level of play without our most physical player.

Time will tell, but I'm not confident about the Rockets playing well without Nene.

Surely you mean beyond Capela, right? He's been boarding the crap out of the ball this series.

Agree with Trez and a getting a few more minutes. Couple of boards, couple of fouls, couple of dunks... All our troubles are over.

I quit shooting for national media a while back or I would be. I take on occasional projects, but games like this go to the guys that have to grind with the full season.
