I would have to dig up the exact quotes, but Morey and Alexander had a lot of positive things to say about Lawson and his buy-in to the team so far. Seems like he is on track to have a nice impact and challenge Bev for the starting spot. A bunch of the players met up in California I believe this offseason for a "mini-camp" of sorts that they put together themselves.

Should be a very entertaining season....

Losing Smoove still stings. Hopefully DMo comes back 100% and can continue to build on his season he had last year before he got hurt

I thought it was already guaranteed that he would start over Bev. If not, then this isn't good news.

There is now way in hell Lawson is not starting.

Personally, I prefer Lawson coming off the bench and Bev starting. Lawson is much better than Bev offensively, and he is able to create his own shot much more effectively than Bev. So having Lawson be the point for the second unit gives us another scoring option. Plus, having Lawson on the floor while James is getting a breather will help prevent those dreadful offensive droughts we dealt with on a frequent basis every time Harden wasn't on the floor

This. Combined with the fact that McHale said they will be competing for the starting job. You can take that FWIW. Maybe just coach speak, but for now there doesn't seem to be a clear answer. Honestly, I could see him trying out both with the first unit early on to get a feel for which lineup he likes best.

There will be plenty of time when Lawson is running the show with Harden on the bench and vise versa. I just have a hard time believing Lawson would agree to come off the bench. A little extreme but would Steph Curry come off the bench to avoid a offensive slow down when he and Thompson left the game?

The difference in that is:

1) Curry >>>>>> Lawson. There is no way Curry comes off the bench for any team. He is the MVP for a reason

and

2) Lawson has had 3 DUI's in a very short period of time. Houston has given him a second chance, but he is going to have to prove that he belongs and earn everything he gets. Certainly we acquired him with the intention of playing him, but Lawson is in no position to complain about getting a raw deal given the current circumstances

Completely disagree with y'all. We had issues because harden was the only one who could create and we had issues even when he was on the court. We need Lawson to start. He's our 3rd best player. He can run the show while James is out and still start.

Even while being a drunk he was hands down better than Bev,Terry, & Lin combined. He's obviously not Curry, but he is a top 8-12 PG (the most stacked position in basketball). He was 15th in PER, 10th in VA, & 3rd in assists.

And the DUIs don't mean ****. There are a lot of teams that would've taken him.

If the off the court stuff is cleaned up he's playing and starting.

If its not then he's not starting because he's not playing.

He can show up to the games drunk and still be the best option

Agree to disagree I guess. All I know is it's nice to have this problem. Going from a PG rotation of Terry/Prigioni to Bev/Lawson/Terry is infinitely better

Don't care if he comes in off the bench or starts... If you rated Lawson's offense a 10 , Beverley's would be a 3 or 4... On the other end, if you rated Bev's defense a 10, what would Lawson's defense be?

Regardless if he starts or not, he will get roughly 32-35 minutes a game.

Except Bev isn't a 10 on D.

Bev
26 - DRPM
64 - ORPM
40 - WAR

Lawson
67 - DRPM
8 - ORPM
11 - WAR

was just a hypoethical to compare them to each other...

I realize that, but I disagreed with Bev's D being as good as Lawson's O.

I love Bev, but he is a bottom 5(?) starting PG. He needs to be playing 15-20 min a game, not 30 like last year.

Oh, I didn't mean to say Bev's D was as good as Ty's O... Bev needs to be able to show up and slow down the plethora of good PG's in the league. I'm sure you'll see Bev and Ty on the court at the same time some, too.

I think you're trusting defensive "statistics" too much. Lots of advanced stat guys admit that we still havent found a defensive statistic that properly shows how good of a defender someone is. IMO, the only way to see how good of a defender a guy is is to watch him constantly, on and off the ball.

All that being said, on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the best defender right now, I'd say Bev is absolutely close to a 10. I mean, who is a better defender at the PG position than him? Maybe Conley or Rondo (when he's not acting like a child), but thats about it.

Chris Paul, John Wall, George Hill, Avery Bradley and Mike Conley are all very good defenders.

Bev is a very good defender, but I feel that he gets more credit than he really deserves. That's not a knock on him at all, because he is very good. But some get this idea that he is like Gary Payton 2.0, and he's not

That's the problem though. You can't compare him to defenders that don't play anymore. Obviously he's not as good as The Glove, but for today's defensive standards he's at least a top 5 defender at the position.

I caught a few min of the Matt Thomas show.

Harden was sick of being followed by pop. A bunch of new commercials coming.

A3za wasn't aware of the new seeding rules.

Harrell is fine with being know as guy who just dunks.

Some head band talk. Brewer wants D-Mo to join the club.

I didn't hear anything exciting.
