Most famous was when Boozer took 6y36mm deal to be released a year early from his rookie contract, then Utah comes in with a 6y70mm deal.

there was a an NBA executive who said that teams go after their FA who verbally agree to other teams ALL THE TIME, so i would blame DJ. He is the one that called Doc

This whole thing is a real bummer for Dirk and the end of his career. Not that he was gonna grab another title, but this could go south for the franchise in a hurry.

Yes, but you use him to get another star in the future.

Of course you still call him a star and tell him he'll be one but this is exactly what Houston did with Dwight. Said he was going to be a star but really at the end of the day, he's a role player. A damn good one but he's by no means a star.

Your sight is pretty short if you think the Mavs, with Parsons, Matthews and Jordan locked into deals with Dirk ultimately coming off the bench wouldn't be a very appealing landing spot for the big free agents next offseason. With all of those guys locked up they'd be able to offer a max deal to one player, that's a pretty stout starting lineup and then you just fill in with role players.

25 other teams will be able to offer max deals next year. Parsons and Matthews are maybe, possibly #2 options at best, but more likely a #3. Jordan is an elite defender and a dunker. Matthews just blew out his achilles and Parsons just had microfracture surgery.

The team has no depth, no point guard and no assets and they weren't able to lure premium free agents when they had better assets.
