No one will ever have better cause for crying over bad draft choices than Memphis taking the original Anthony Davis when they could have had Steph Curry instead. Can you imagine Memphis with Curry?

Memphis is pretty bad with that whole draft thing.

Thabeet over Harden/Curry is pretty bad. How about Minnesota in the same draft taking back to back point guards in Rubio and Jonny Flynn while Steph Curry, Ty Lawson and Brandon Jennings were still on the board.

And that was the year after Memphis drafted Kevin Love, then packaged him with Mike Miller in his prime (17/6/4 over the previous four years) for OJ Mayo.

Mike Conley turned out ok, but they could have had Acie Law!

More has gotten a couple nice picks in the draft in Parsons and Jones (if he is ever healthy). But the rest of his drafts look like crap.

Drafted and traded away Nic Batum for Joey Dorsey and Donte Green. And that pick was right before George Hill, DeAndre Jordan, Mario Chalmers, Omer Asik, and Goran Dragic.

Aaron Brooks taken one spot before Aron Affalo and before Carl Landry and Marc Gasol.

Patrick Patterson taken in the great stockpiling of PFs over Eric Bledsoe and Lance Stephenson.

Picking Royce White.

But anyway, you Rockets fans have a big thread just for you, wouldn't this be better on that thread, rather than on Kawhi's DPOY thread?

You seem pretty butthurt about morey. You could do this exact same exercise for any team, including your precious Spurs.

Took splitter when you could have had Marc gasol. Took Marcus Williams (who?) over glen Davis and Ramon sessions.

Took George hill when you could have had deandre Jordan.

Traded Goran Dragic for Malik Hairston (who?) and cash LOL

Traded a first round pick for 1.5 years of 37-year old Kurt Thomas instead of drafting Taj Gibson LOL

Drafted James Anderson over lance Stephenson

Took Cory Joseph over jimmy butler

Took Adam hanga (wtf) over Isaiah Thomas LMAO

I think individual awards are stupid just in general, but if you are going to name a DPOY you can't say Kawhi was not deserving. The other top 3-4 defenders would have been probably just as deserving of such an award. Hard to complain if any of them had won it.

Kawhi is a beast when he's locked in though. Hopefully his offense will continue to blossom over the next couple years. Would be nice to see a superstar like him (humble & quiet) rule the league.

To be fair, that's been Tim Duncan for the last 17 years.

Meh. Yeah, I'd rather have Gasol. They could have screwed it up way worse than that though. Davis and Sessions I could care less about. Would not really do much in the Spurs system.

Jordan would be worthless in the Spurs O, though he'd be nice to have on D with Timmy. At that point in the evolution of the Spurs, they needed a backup PG and scorer more than they needed interior help.

Definitely wish they'd drafted and kept Dragic. Though something tells me he would've found Pop's Beno Udrih doghouse club.

They needed a semi-stretch 4 that could play decent defense. They knew what they were getting with Kurt. Not that bad of a move.

Anderson was a bust but I'd have wanted no part of Stephenson and he would not have lasted a year on the Spurs.

Took Cory Joseph over jimmy butler
Yeah I'd rather have Butler, but not real upset they did this.

I don't want anyone named Isaiah Thomas anywhere near the Spurs organization. That said, they probably could have used that pick for something better.

I meant to say in 2020 when Duncan retires.

I'm a big fan of Morey and the entire advanced stats movement. Nice try, though.

Kind of ridiculous to compare "Spurs traded a late-round player for a veteran post defender they needed for a playoff run and then some other team passed over Taj Gibson" and blame the Spurs for that. And that was probably your strongest argument.

Kawhi Donating his award car.

quote:
"The trophy's probably going to collect dust, but the vehicle is going to come in handy," Leonard said "Respite Care needs that car to transfer kids and give them a chance to see a better side of life."

Bert Pfiester, president and CEO of Respite Care, said the small charity takes care of about 60 children at any given time, many with mental disabilities, autism, seizure disorders or physical injuries.

"Some of our kids have come to us straight from the hospital," Pfiester said. "For Kawhi to make this gesture, he's holding these kids high, and many of these kids have never had someone think of them."

The program has to make an average of about 30 doctor appointments a week, and the average car in Respite Care's fleet has 150,000 miles. This will be the first new car the foundation has had since it opened in 1987.
